hi,

I am looking to upgrade my HT set up and have 3 choices:

krell showcase processor & showcase 5 amplifier
lexicon mc-4 and cx-5 amplifier
arcam av8 + p7

I am leaning towards the krell option. the problem is the speaker choices avaialble here. m&k, jm labs, kef and martin logans are the only options available and they are from 3 different dealers so demos are a huge problem. need some advise on what would be the best match for home theater use primarily.

My main concern would be how those speakers sound in my room. The room can make a huge difference. If you're going to buy from a dealer make sure you have the option to take them back. The sound in a dealer's showroom can sound far different than your own room by a large margin. I know little of processors so I can't help you there, I'm a two channel guy. You may want to do more research and widen your speaker choices if possible. The three you list all make very good speakers but there are alot of good companies who make speakers, some you will like possibly better than the three you listed. Don't want to find out after you spend the big bucks you made a boo boo.

Krell and Martin Logans would be a killer system.

Krell is wonderful equipment, I heard my first Krell system back in 1987.... Ah, I even remember the day ... it was bright and sunny in Southern California ... no smog in the air, no clouds in the sky, the birds were chirping ... and then I got to hear Krell powering up some Apogee Duetta's.

Yes, there is an audio god.

Oops, sorry, back to your system.

I love ML's, but they need a nice size room to breath and properly disperse their sound. I would take a pretty serious size room to properly use high end ML's in a 5.1 system.

If you are trying to put together a top notch system, especially at this price range, your local dealers should be willing to lend you a set of floor models (with a small security deposit or your first born child left behind) for a real world trial.

Oops, sorry, I have that weird since of humor.

Seriously, most high end dealers will be very happy to arrange for a home demo. They would rather make you happy with the right equipment, than to have the equipment come back at a later date.
