The Receiver Showdown! NAD/Rotel/Marantz?

Okay, I thank you all for the great feedback I received on a previous post. I've narrowed my brand choice down to three.

NAD T763,
Rotel RSX-1057
Marantz SR8500

All are close in price. The Rotel has a lower watt/ch rating at 75. I know that this is not always accurate depending on how the manufacturer came up with that rating, but I have NO IDEA how to figure that out. As long as I can get comparible sound and volume out of the Rotel...it'll remain in the running.

Here's the initial set-up. Easy. Two Axiom M60s. Subwoofer may be added in the near future. Possibly surround speakers alot later. Room size is 15x20 and I will be mostly listening to music.

Comments, advice, and "hello McFlys" would be appreciated.
Thanks.

..... I also am considering the Rotel... as an add on to your question, I would like to know the practicallity of buying a receiver now considering

1) New surround formats are around the corner (i.e. the HD formats) and...

2) future product may have more that 2 HDMI inputs

Sorry for riding on your question

.....Guys, I encourage you to make your audio component choices based on audio, period....and I mean what you hear sounds the "more live" of your choices, and literally, pills the thriss out of you....the video side will take care of itself with upconverting DVD players and such....to make a decision of pre-pro'ing based on switching capabilities or matrixed surround sound will bring upgraditis far too soon, I've lived it, thanks....think "more live" concerning the audio.....hold out for speakers that put you in awe....main's regiment speakers are your last shot and the "voice" of your audio system.....is this mic on?....huh?......

I just want to second waht mulester's saying here; focus on the audio aspects of your receiver - and same for the speakers like he said... 'pills the thriss out of you...' that's how it needs to be!!! The video aspects are important, but should definately come second in consideration when concerning which pre/pro or receiver to choose, especially since you can always bypass the receiver when new hdmi versions or whatever capabilities come around and you can ust use your display/projector switching capabillities and a new player to get the latest and greatest video compatibilities....

Thanks for the choosing hints guys... but this guy wants some clues for his choice.

In my opinion (very important to specify lol), I never heard of Rotel. But these are professional audio products. For NAD -vs- Marantz, I heard the two of 'em yesterday on the same set of speakers and I can tell you that NAD reproduces sound better. Smoother for music. And with the 763, you're never gonna run out of power! :p I'm about to buy the 753 soon. Just looking for the best price around here. My bank account denies me from going to 763 lol.

Mulester and zildjian hit the nail on the head. Forget about all the whiz-bang gizmos, gadgets, knobs, connections, modes, and badges. Find a receiver that SOUNDS good to your ears.

Whatever processing, surround modes, or formats it has, it will be obsolete in a very short while. You can wait forever for the "perfect" combination of gadgets, and no matter how long you wait something new will be coming just down the road. So forget that stuff unless you have a very specific need that you just can't live without. Concentrate on how they sound. The audio side will determine whether you can "suspend disbelief" and fall into the music or movie soundtrack. Which piece of equipment will send chills up and down your spine, and does it raise gooseflesh on your arms. When that happens then you know you've got a winner.

For my taste, I would go with the NAD. If you look below you'll notice that particular name in my den system equipment list, so in the interest of full disclosure I just wanted to get that out of the way right here and now. Having said that, I have owned Marantz in the past, and I've listened to many different Rotel amps, integrated amps, and receivers.

Personally (I.E., in my opinion), I think the Rotel could be a poor choice with your Axiom speakers. I know that Axiom are well regarded, and I am not trying to dis you speaks... but the titanium dome tweeter can be sent into tizzyland by an amp that is not smooth, controlled, and polished. Keeping in mind that I'm admittedly a fan of soft-dome tweeters in general, and not metal-dome, I would not pair the Axiom's with a Rotel amp. I think that the Marantz and the NAD would both be better choices; and of the two, the NAD is better able to handle the dynamics of music and movie soundtracks, and it is simply the more musical of the two.

The NAD sound is powerful, dynamic, detailed yet smooth, and most importantly... MUSICAL!

That's my two cents.
