I just recently heard the Revel 208 and I'm impressed driven my McIntosh and then we pushed a Marantz into the mix. Smooth Jazz, Yo Yo Ma, blues I even threw Blue Grass at it and the speakers were very musical not the old F52's but a nice speaker.

Is anyone have the phil3's give us his advice on the sound and the performance, also salks, revels and PSB.
Please give me the support to decide, more actions will be more positive to me, not to decide only but also to increase the background.

To be honest, I am very very impressed on tge RAAL tweeter and the finish's of phils and salks.
Is that may will a cretiria to you in deciding what the speaker you will go with.

The three main factors to putting the Phils and salks in the list are:
1- the good reviews on the both.
2- the finishs available from the both companies.
3- the RAAL tweeter.

Please folks more and more actions will be a very very postive fot the all.

Thx

As stated before, bass extension is gonna be the main difference between the Salks and Phil3, the Phil3 is open back mid/tweeter which gives some flexibility as to tailoring the sound with fill

I have a pair of Phil 3's and they're great speakers. They won't have the power handling to hit 120db's in a large room full range, but make no mistake, crossed over to a pair of good subs and they'll get plenty loud. I've pushed the Phils pretty hard, probably beyond what most people would venture to do, and the RAAL hangs in there without noticeable signs of distortion or distress.

As to the other aspects of the Phil's, the ability to sort of taylor the sound to your liking and to your placement restrictions is definitely nice. They're accurate speakers with a nice big soundstage and will deliver whatever your source is without getting in the way.

Something to consider is the type of support you are going to get with a brand of speaker. When I tried to find a Revel dealer to audition speakers, the experience turned into total chaos. There was a dealer moderately close but he was in a fight and in the process of losing the Revel line because of a comment someone else made about him on a forum (ironically the comment included a glowing review of the dealer). The "new" dealer turned out to be a flake who I later found to have several BBB complaints. In a month of trying to schedule time to audition the Revel speakers, I never go to listen to them. I couldn't imagine what it would like working with the "new" dealer with warranty issues.

In contrast, I found RBH, KEF, Salk, and SVS to be super easy to deal with thru my various speaker purchases. RBH and Salk were the coolest for me since I called and spoke directly with the actual speaker designer(s).

Good luck with the speaker purchase!

I only have experience with Salk speakers on that list, so I'll add a comment. Jim Salk and Dennis Murphy (who owns Philharmonic, and designs the Salk crossovers) are both honest and outstanding individuals. They have answered countless numbers of my emails. Jim's customer service is top-notch (I'm sure Dennis's is great too, although I've never bought from him).

The Salk finish options are limited only by your imagination. You can pick out the veneer you want, or choose from stock veneers at base pricing.

The Phil 3s and the Salks will be voiced similarly. My experience is that my Salks with the RAAL tweeter are a very neutral and accurate speaker. They add nothing of their own, and they reveal any flaw in the recording.

Personal preference, your desired use, and your electronics will all affect your decision. My recommendation would be try as many of the options as you can in your own home, with your own gear.

The low extension is exactly what it states on the website, in other words, it's excellent. The bass is tight and accurate. Depending on the content, it can hit hard or be smooth as silk (;)) However, even in the MLTL alignment, it is still only an 8" woofer so you are a bit SPL limited. That being said, crossed over to a pair of great subs and they'll get up there. They are definitely full range music speakers when played within their SPL limits.

Just to put this in a little context--they will certainly play louder with a sub. But on their own, they can more than fill up a large, heavily carpeted and curtained hotel conference room at uncomfortably loud levels, playing organ music with very deep bass content. I've done it twice at the Capital Audio Show. In home theater applications, however, with worlds ending and wild reptiles on a rampage, you're not going to be able to shake the room quite as much as some HT enthusiasts would like. And there may be some heavy metal, techno type music that would overtax the woofers at screaming levels.
