I watched this movie on DVD.. The sound was not too impressive in 2.0, the w channel imaging was horrible, I hope the sound would be better for those with surroundsound. The subspmonic effects were't that bad in 2.0 though, but otherwise, there was a lot of audio missing withouth at 5.1. As for the story line, can't really tell too much without giving away the whole movie. If what you expect is a typical Stephen King movie, that is exactly what your gonna get. Rather predictable in some parts but the ending is an unexpected trajedy of sorts, with a major dissapointment in the sound quality at the end. You would at least expect some massive subsonics when they are getting bounced around in the vehicle, while my rta registered no lower than 48hz.

Overall, I would say it was what anyone could expect for a Stephen King movie, predictable but still worth the time to watch if your at all interested in the genre. If predictable sub horror films aren't your favorite, wait a few weeks and rent it or wait for it on showtime. I was lucky and got a preview disc otherwise, I would not have even given this movie a review.

I do have to give a slight bit of credit for the cinematic effects, for a mid budget movie, the effects where at the least acceptable, although not great. Don't expect too much, and you'll enjoy it......

I got the Mist as a rental from Blockbuster. The trailer for the movie kind of gives away the storyline but there are a few surprises. Its pretty much an average movie for Stephen King but there wasn't a lot of new releases left that I had not seen so I pricked it. Its an ok rental but I would not want to see it again.

It was a fairly decent adaptation of the story. Though I thought the story was much more scary. The ending was made up for the movie, but I thought was actually pretty cool.

On the technical side, the movie sucked a bit. Primitive CGI and bad audio I have to admit. But put that aside, it has been a long time since a movie really got my nerves like that one. Some actors were "believable". I like the fact that the emotions and reactions were realistic enough. I was disappointed by the end but at the same time I loved it. It is really a breath of fresh air. We don't see those old school nice storyline movies like that anymore. Kudos for that. And then I turned the tv on and watched Montreal win an inextremist victory vs buffalo. What a day! :D

In the end, a movie is there to entertain and it really did a great job of transmitting the emotions. Could be that I was in that kind of mood too I don't know.

On the pluss side of the movie they did include of those charecters that I think anybody would love to hate, I myself was voting for a much earlier demise, but... it's still hollywood, and they had to stick somewhat close to the book.

The wife and I rented this one over the weekend. I expected a top-tier King movie in the vein of perhaps the Green Mile or The Shining. Instead what I got was not much better than a silver screen version of the Langoliers.

I thought it was atrocious. The concept of the movie was decent enough - they had a good plot to go on, I think what killed it was the over-acting by some of the characters - just made it seem like a low budget B-flick of which there are a dime a dozen.

Halfway through my wife and I looked at each other in confusion and said, "This is the dumbest freaking movie ever." The ending was really messed up too, and I don't think it was very realistic - it was merely one of those scenes designed from an age-old template in Hollywood to make you go, "Oh nooo..."

Waste of money (and time).

Isn't that the whole point of scifi, we had a couple people ruin the whole thing for Sunshine. They had to point out all the failures in the story line, the fact is, both movies had a story that didn't have any basis in reality, yet the swung in some good subsonic sound effects, and they were visually appealing to the masses. I know they could have both been done better but give the over paid hollywood directors a little bit of credit or we won't have anything left to criticize. The new movie list has really dried up since christmas time and I don't expect to see anthing good come out till next christmas, so give the poor overpaid hollywood producers a break already...............

Funny you use the term "realistic" for a sci-fi movie.
I meant more realistic in terms of the people's reactions and use of over-acting in many scenes. As I stated, the concept was good, I would have enjoyed it a lot more had it been done with a little more effort, and perhaps better actors.

Sorry for my misunderstanding.

I admit that the role play wasn't one of the best but nonetheless gave a certain taste to the movie. I hear ya... I hate it when the actors doesn't make it look like real human nature/reactions, regardless of the story. Each actor has its own kind and plays better in certain types of movies. Take Denzel Washington for example. This guy is my favorite actor but always excels in some kind of roles. I never saw Keanu Reaves cry in a movie either lol.

There was a really neat3-D audio version audiobook of this novella years ago. Do a torrent search and I'm sure you can still find it. I've got an old copy lying around on my HD someplace.

I always liked the audiobook, and was really hopeful for the movie. They could have stuck with the ending from the story and it would have been fine with me.

Unfortunately King's books haven't been made into that many good films. But then that's what happens when you take a book and dumb it down into a feature film for 17 year olds.

I thought the movie was pretty good, it showed alot in human emotion more than monsters how people will flock like sheep and turn on each other:eek:

I wish I could go back an UNwatch this movie. As a father, the ending left an indelible mark on me that I would love to erase... Other than that it was entertaining, however the ending made me want to go hug my son... for a few days.

hahahaha. that's EXACTLY what my bro said. not a bad movie he said, but the look on the kid's eyes made it very "sick" for him. (he's got a kid as well, albeit a daughter)

I on the other hand watched it because i was interested in his comments.

I said "traumatic" because of this scene, but "dumb" because that's not gonna happen to me anytime soon. suicide? :D I'd shove those last 4 bullets to the next 4 monsters first before I whack the 5th monster with the gun. suicide is for wusses. fight to the death!

I have two boys, that ending was complete BS. I'd have to see the monster's face or something. No way am I capping my boy just because I hear something.
