I have an original Matrix DVD (purchased 2000) that only works in very few players for some reason. I was hoping it would play in my new Denon 2910, but it doesn't.

The disc is in perfect condition (as all of my DVDs are), but it just won't play in anything except my PC. I seem to recall that this was a epidemic problem back in the day.

I'm about to go buy a new copy, hoping the problem is fixed. Any thoughts?

The version that comes in the new Matrix box set is supposed to have a very good transfer and better sound. Of course, that means you have to spend 50+ bucks to get it so it may not be worth it. I have the original Matrix and a Denon 2910 and I don't have any problems with my disc, however I bought it well after it was out on DVD.

I had the same problem when the Matrix came out on dvd originally. I had a samsung dvd player and it wouldn't play it. So I took it back to BB and traded it for another copy only to get the same results. Buying a $50 box set to get 1 movie is irrational. Just go to your local video store and rent it and rip it. This is a great way to increase your movie selection. Your public library is also a good (free if I might add) place to expand your music and movie collection.

I purchased it again and the new copy works just fine. :)
