I picked this one up because I always liked it and it was also shot in a local favorite spot, Santa Cruz. I wasn't expecting the freshening to look that good though, the video quality is surprisingly good. There are a few problem scenes, as a lot of it is at night, but overall it looks very good. I don't know if they updated it significantly, but the soundtrack is not quite as good. It sounds good and there is good use of surrounds, but it may be showing its age a bit.

Yippy, another classic to land for me perhaps. hehehehe. I've got Darkman, Last Starfigther, The Frighteners I think all on HD-DVD. I listed that in descending PQ order, Darkman being by far the best, and very discernable differences between all three, IMO.

I also have The Thing, but haven't watched it yet.

Have you any of these on HD-DVD, and if so can you possibly remember enough to make a comparison to any of the above? Thanks and cheers.

I don't have Darkman or Starfighter (even though they are favorites of mine too...waiting for BD :D ), but I do have Frighteners and I found the PQ to be good, not great. At times it looks very good, but other times it has some issues; it is better than the SD DVD PQ wise and the sound is easily much better than any previous release. The sound is almost the star now :D

The Thing on HD is amazing. The print does show its age on some scenes (outdoors, distance shots, clearly shot with a different kind of film/camera) just like Lost Boys, but the majority of the movie looks excellent. Sound is not a revelation, but is quite good.
