Just go see it. Trust me on this one. It's a sleeper.

Great plot, great cinematography, great acting and a great ending.

We went in thinking this was a different movie but, within 1/2 hour, we were glad it wasn't.

How was the sound? Or, it is not really a sound type film?

I've really been wanting to see this, but been very busy. Probably be out of theaters by the time I have some free time...

It was more of a follow the plot type film.

I hear ya. More and more movies go into that post-theater/pre-DVD limbo sooner than ever before.

If you can, try to see it in the theatre or at least on a really good, really big screen TV. The European scenery is goregous and the cinematography (sp?) does it justice. This is one under-rated director and has set himself one high hurdle to maintain.

Oh, the movie we THOUGHT we were going to see was "The Prestiege"

From what I remember, there are no big audio moments in the film. There is no over the top magic in the film or anything.

I thought it was a pretty interesting movie with a bit of a surprise ending.

I am interested in seeing whether The Prestige will go for the big budget special effects and lack the substance that The Illusionist had.

I heard about it when it was still in limited release and should have gone to see it then. We like to go see the "art-house" kind of non-mainstream type films, and they are often quite good (at least different from the standard "formula" movies).

Is that a similar movie to the Illusionist, yet to be released?

Great, thanks. I saw the previews to it, looked impressive and will have to see this, either still at the theaters or at home. Is a 100x54 big enough? :D

Well, they are both about magicians. Without haveing seen 'em both I don't knowwhatelse is similar.

From the looks ofthe coming attractions though, "The Prestige" seemsto be relying heavily on well known stars and SFX while in "The Illusionist" I can honestly say that the SFX were very downplayed but the plot was extremely well developed.

Prestige looks OK too, but I'm more interested in this one.

The Illusionist was *quite* good. The pacing and tone of the movie were absolutely on the mark.

Terrific movie. I am a fan of the history of that era and salivated at the chance to spend a couple hours in turn-of-the-century Vienna. This movie didn't disappoint. I loved the general hints at real historic characters (the arrogant Archduke Ferdinand, whose assasination launched WWI), the plot and the use of stage spectacle of the sort that would have blown away audiences of that era. As always, Giamati and Norton were great.

Very very good

Would you guys laugh at me if I said this was the best movie I have seen all year? I really enjoyed this movie, the acting and the plot was above what we have come to expect from Hollywood.

Nope.

I'd just know you haven't seen Little Miss Sunshine or The Departed :)

Yes you might be right, but my only problem with "The Departed" is that it seems way too predictable. I have not even seen the movie yet and I think I can tell you 90% of the plot.

You'd be wrong. From the previews and trailers you can guess the setup, sure. But you could guess the setup of Goodfellas by looking at a poster. Big deal ;)

It's a long movie with a *lot* of plot, a lot of characters, and a fair bit of confusion. You owe it to yourself to go see it. Scorsese does a fantastic job of respecting the audience's intelligence. It's already pegged at #50 on the IMDB top 250.

I've seen both, loved Sunshine. The Departed reminded me of 2 parts Goodfellows, 2 parts Gangs of New York with a little bit of Pulp Fiction thrown in for good measure. I seemed to know the ending about 10 minutes into the movie and tired of the brain spatter scenes.

As for better movies over the past year, I can count up ones llike World's Fastest Indian, The White Countess, Casanova, Black Dahlia, V for Vendetta, Match Point and Jet Li's Fearless as being far better. I don't think this will be Marty's year of the Oscar.

I was unimpressed with The Black Dahlia. V for Vendetee was quite good... Fearless was mediocre at best. I saw The Departed again last night and was just as impressed. I don't think it's Best Director worthy, but I can't really think of anything else that's come out this year that would be more deserving of the award. There are clearly some great movies I have not yet seen though.

I thought Illisionist was very good. Very good actually. Edward is awesome, Jessica is getting better, and Paul was amazing as well. Then of coarse they had the perfect bad guy, you cannot help but hate him, even if he is a baby.
