All I can say is WOW. This movie has some SERIOUSLY DEEP BASS. The walls in my room were shaking, honestly. It goes so deep, my SVS PB12-Ultra (in 16hz tune mode) unloaded, and started chuffing. The movie itself (plot, characters, ect.) sucked. I found myself watching just for the next action sequence. Only, to see if it topped the last one for low bass output of course. I have yet to watch a movie with this much very deep low end. (Though I do have to try out U-571 with my new sub yet.)

You know you're in deep (bad pun) when you "listen" to movies instead of caring about the plot or actors :) U-571 is good as is the first 10 minutes or so of Master & Commander. I too find myself rating movies on soundtrack (especially bass) since I got my PC Ultra....scary ain't it? :D

I usually will buy a movie if it has good sound, even if it is a bad movie. Darkness Falls and The Haunting DTS-ES are examples of that. In fact, I have two copies of the Haunting DTS - I found one used in perfect condition, so I can lend one out when people want to see what their sub is capable of and the other is mine. Both are rather average as horror movies go, but both have excellent sound, so I own them both :) Boogeyman was another that surprised me, but the sound wasn't quite enough for me to want to watch that one again...

I know it's not the film producers fault, but isn't there a danger that as more and more films increase the 'welly' in the low end, folk with, shall we say, less capable subs run a greater risk of blowing them up? I mean, your sub is regarded as a bit of a monster isn't it, and you say that even yours was pushed beyond it's limits?

Yeah couldnt that be a problem? I mean look at sheeps brothers sub. Sheep ran some test tones and ruined the sub by accident because the amp couldnt handle those low frequencies.

This could potentially become an issue. However, I must say, I am much more a fan of it than a naysayer. Reason: Do we want movie soundtracks to become as compressed and hot as most musical recordings? I would hope not. Most (good) subs typically will have a subsonic filter engaged to help reduce any potential problems. I also did have my gain set a tad hot. After some tweaking and tuning, I got it dialed in just right, and did not notice any problems. I would not see this as a case to cause any significant stress.

Remember, my infrasonic filter is set to 16hz at 24 db/oct (I believe). at 8hz I am -24db down. At 12hz it is -12db down. After checking things through a bit more, most of the issues (if you can call them that) were due to the gain being set a tad hot. However, I was still impressed to hear a movie that was able to play that deep.

Well, maybe you want to check out or revisit The Incredibles or The Haunting DTS-ES :D I saw a waterfall of one scene in the Incredibles in the jungle that had a brief dip into the 5Hz region.

Finaly watched this though I had to do so on my old crappy HT. The movie itself was ok. 3 or 4 laugh out loud moments with a handful of chukles sprinkled in. I will watch it again when I have my new HT set up properly.

2.5 out of 5 stars

Hah, I got this movie out and used it as a demo on one of my displays at work and they made me take it out because the bass was so loud in the store that nobody could concentrate. :D I love my job...
