December 20, 2009 (ELGIN, Ill.) -- The Salvation Army in Elgin says they've been robbed of small television sets and backpacks filled with school supplies that were meant as holiday gifts for needy and homeless children.
Police say Salvation Army employees went to retrieve items from a garage to prepare for a Christmas party when they discovered the burglary Wednesday. Police say 20 5-inch television sets worth about $50 each and 30 backpacks were taken. A Christmas tree and decorations also were taken.
Salvation Army Major Ken Nicolai said Sunday that despite the thefts he thinks the group will have enough toys for its more than 1,000 families. Nicolai says "people have been very generous this year."
Nicolai says someone dropped two gold coins worth as much as $8,000 into a local kettle late last week.
This made me angry that some scumbags stole from needy and homeless children. I hope they find the person or persons who did this.I know the economy is bad but it not that bad were you need to steal from needy and homeless children.
