Didn't know what to call it, but I have noticed my girlfriend buying a lot of cd's lately. When I met her, she listened mostly to mp3s that she downloaded and her Ipod. We went to Wal-mart to get a few things and we always like to look in the $5.00 cd bins. We have found some great cd's this way.
Anyhooo...I bought a Styx cd that had a great mix, and she got 4 cd's of various artists. Lately tho she has been buying more traditional, Spanish music. She is of Mexican heritage. I have grown to like a lot of it, but, sometimes the accordion can get old fast. :)
Usually I buy many more cd's than she does, but today I noticed a shift. She now spends more time looking than I do. I mentioned my observation and she confessed, hearing music on quality speakers makes you want to try more music, just to hear it on the speakers.
Now this is nothing new to some who have been in the hobby for some time. I must admit, that even though I have always had a soft spot for good sound, I also have never had speakers quite like my Ascends. This isn't a speaker pitch, so I'll move on.
We have both broadened our musical resumes' since I started building this system. This is such a great hobby, but it's more than that. It's a window to your soul. Certain songs can always invoke emotion with anyone, but to find new music, even in stuff you've heard a hundred times is what's really fun.
I must also confess, I see myself with an ulterior motive. Now that she has come to see how much enjoyment you can get from a great sound system, I won't have to justify every audio purchase. There never really was much of a WAF to deal with, but she never really understood why I was willing to pay so much for a stereo. When we would stop at audio shops to audition speakers, she had no interest. Now she listens, asks questions and critiques.
It has become a mutual hobby, and that's just cool.
