Me again ... swooping in like a vulture for the freebies.

Walter gave this to me along with the AR turntable and a couple of Carver amps that more than likely need repair. The equipment is still out in my car. A friend of mine likes to say that there is no such thing as a free puppy. In this case it's going to take some effort to get this stuff to stop being a bunch of gear spread out all over.

Of course before I do that my girl is suggesting that I get this room all squared away with wall repair and paint so that I don't have to move stuff around to do it later.

I wish I was like Paradigm Dawg.
All his stuff is perfect and gets done effortlessly while he sips mint juleps. :D

Looks like I have to take the Carver out of my rack and send it off to you. You know that one works. At least you can post 1 out 3 ain't bad. My wife even said "why did'nt you just give it to him". Carver will be arrivng at your doorstep sooner than you think.

I knew your wife was a good person when I first saw her. :)

I don't know where all this good will is coming from but I do appreciate it. Sucking up the freebies on AH isn't my main function but at the same time I'm powerless to resist. It's also a fine start to getting Matt's speakers off the ground amp wise once I get them squared away. I still have to find that guys card that owns an electronics repair shop around here.

Thanks again Walter,
Alex

You got some soldering skills and a good iron. You might be able to fix it.

The one amp I plugged in and it buzzed for about 30 seconds and then went dead. I don't know what happened, checked fuse and it was blown, replaced fuse and fuse blew again. Now this amp has ON/OFF button.
The other amp I plugged in and nothing. But I don't know if it has some kind of trigger to turn it on, because it does not have an ON button. Also one speaker post broke off. That sounds bad does'nt it.

A lot of Bob's amplifiers are prone to problems, it's the one thing that keeps his amplifiers from being beyond extraordinary value. Some of the most durable amplifiers he ever created where the ones with lightstar technology, which I have had two of (wish I still had them).

Which amps would those be, do you have a model # on them?

AV-705 and AV-505. The AV-505 was my favorite. The AV-505 was only rated 80 watts per channel ACD, but was able to derive power from the transformer to go to any particular channel for more power than it was rated. Each channel has it's own modular amplifier, but they all draw from same power supply. Each channel is extremely rugged with heavy extruded heatsinks as large as you would find a decent size receiver, only it has one for each channel. The 705 was a little different, but was a higher wattage model. I never felt that it was built as well (like it was a succeeding model after the success of the AV-505)

I still wish you never got rid of it. Oh well. :D
