Tannoy AVG Signature Loudspeakers

I've recently been offered these speakers, and am wondering what you guys think of them. I've only found a few links for them and most are chinese. Have you heard of these speakers before? What price do you think is reasonable for them? The one link I found that has a picture of them is from f-audio. I'd post the link, but as a newbie to this forum, it won't let me. However, if you do a search for Tannoy AVG Signature and then click on the f-audio link, you'll get there.

What do you think?

Give 'em a listen...

and let us know what you think.

I only found the same info you did on the intertubes, which was not much. Does anyone here have the ability to translate chinese?

I have heard Tannoy's, and the one's I heard are quite efficient, but much larger than the ones you have (they had a single concentric driver of about 12" in LARGE cabs, and simply rocked w/ only 5 watts of SET power behind them...gotta love high efficiency speakers!).

Based on that f-audio page, the model you have been offered appears to be more like their current home-theater offerings. Other than that, all I can offer is guesswork. Ley your ears be the judge.

I would be careful. Those speakers are not on the Tannoy archive. There are downloads for Tannoy products going way back on their site. Tannoy merged with a Danish holding company TCG electronics group, in 2002.

One of the companies they hold is TC electronics China.

I suspect the speakers you are referring to are a creation of theirs and are "gray market goods". How much input Tannoy had into the product I have no idea, but my guess would be not enough. Far Eastern speakers are seldom voiced anywhere near correctly.

Hmm, I looked up the Tannoy Archive, and that page doesn't list anything after 1999. This speaker looks like it's the Tannoy Eyris DC3, which is sold here. I've heard them and they do indeed sound great.

I don't think they are the same speaker at all. The DC3 is a good speaker. It is a tower 3.5 way with super tweeter on top. The AVG is a small 2.5 way.

Did you look at pictures or specs of both? They are both floorstanding towers, both have the same speakers including the super tweeters. If you compare the specs on both too, they match to the letter, including range, load, etc. I'm thinking they are the same speaker in different markets.

I got on the wrong Chinese site. The ones on the Chinese F audio site do look the same. However I suspect they are gray market, so you need to be careful and aware. There are lots of knock offs from the Far East.

Thanks, I'll be on the lookout. You never can tell when something is Chinese these days.

What do you think of Tannoy Speakers as a brand generally? Are there current products good "Bang for buck" or overpriced?

I'm new to the brand myself, so I'm interested in other people's answers. I'm replacing some Linn Sekrits with these. I love the Sekrits, but the range on these were much greater.
