Talking Heads: Speaking in Tongues DualDisc Review

Late last year the entire collection of eight Talking Heads studio albums was remastered and reissued in DualDisc format as a boxed set humorously entitled Brick. Subsequently, the albums were made available individually beginning in January of this year. So admittedly this reissue flew underneath my radar for some time before I “discovered” it. I chose to review this particular album because it is one the casual fan will likely most appreciate. The DualDisc offers the entire album in stereo on the CD side and in advanced resolution stereo and surround on the DVD side, along with bonus tracks and music videos.

Thanks Clint. I always loved the album but wound up with a crappy cassette recording that I never liked. Maybe it's time to spring for a real copy. This was probably their best and most popular album and marked the completion of the transition from a quirky new wave band to a full rock and roll big venue band. But... like you said they don't fit labels well and who really needs em anyway.

John Hopkins (HopJohn on the boards) wrote that review. John, once again, great job.

One of my favorite bands. The cd's always sounded fantastic, and the music really gives your speakers a workout. Nice review HopJohn.

Sand In The Vaseline

I doubt its the case, but do you know if they released 'Sand In The Vaseline' in DualDisc? I say I doubt it due to it being a compilation CD of their previous albums, but if they did, I'd be on this like stink on a monkey...:D -TD

You are right. They did not release Sand in the Vaseline as a Dualdisc. Though, the Brick box set contains all the same basic material.

Here's a link to it if interested.

Best so far

I agree totally with your review Clint - this is the best surround release in many a moon. I just think it's all there, dynamics, surrounds, slam - it's got it all. Definitely the highlight of the Brick. Remain in Light was very well done too. Do you like it as well as SIT?

The 'Brick' is a little heavy...

While I am a Heads fan, I'm not so sure I'm a $135 boxed set fan, that's a bit pricey @ $17 a CD/DualDisc... -TD
