hey guys, ive taken the plunge back into audio equiptment. :D got my old pos HTiB sony 5.1 out and some new goodies in. wall mounted my new tv and playing with the idea of a new center, woofer and floor standers. help me lose my mind!

currently have a onkyo nr509 as i only have the room in my bedroom for 5.1. got a set of monitor bx1's and thats about it so far. filling in the gaps with my dads paradigm sub and the sony HTiB center and rears. the cubic feet is about 1400 and square footage is 180 ish. would a svs PB12-NSD be overkill for this small of a room?

Welcome to the forum! Most excellent screen name, btw. :)

Congrats on the new gear, too! Some thoughts:
  • Try running your Onkyo with a "phantom" center (by not using your center channel speaker, but rather having the two front speakers handle it), and then try it with the Sony center channel. You might find that you like it better without that Sony...or maybe not. Just a thought, as I'm guessing that those Monitors are much better than the HTiB speakers.
  • If you can afford it, it never hurts to get a great sub. After all, you can always turn the volume down on a quality sub, but you can't turn the quality up on a junky one. Plus, when you move into a larger room, you're set.
  • You can always contact SVS and get their thoughts on which sub would fit your needs/desires the best. I haven't corresponded with them much since 2007/2008 (back when I bought my sub), but they were always open and honest with me - and I've read the same from everyone else that I've seen. I don't think that they'd try to sell you more than you want.

first off thanks. i will try the phantom center idea now. i guess i should adjust the receiver accordingly then too. i will give svs an email tonight and see what they say. without my dads sub the system just feels flat and lifeless, so its a next step defiantly.

Why not get Bx1s fir center and surrounds?
Because I haven't heard them and I thought for about 1000 for two fronts I could get some more options that might be better or sound better. Was I wrong for assuming this?
I'm new again to the whole ht thing.

Ok!

That 1000 is in which currency $ or € or £?
