Howdy...

I decided to get a bit more serious about setting up my home theatre since my receiver is dying and I am going to make a change. I actually have two setups but might want to make a speaker swap.

My main system currently has a Sony DB930 receiver with this speaker setup:

JBL S312 250W 12" 3-way for front speakers
JBL SCenter Dual 5.25" 4-way 150W center speaker
Omega (DLK) 10" 3-way speakers for the rear (formerly my front speakers)
Klipsch HS2 5.25" 2-way 75W outside speakers used as "B" speakers

On my other system I have a smaller Sony receiver with these speakers:

Cerwin Vega D-1 8" 2-way 5-100W front speakers
JBL J216A 6.5" 2-way 10-75W rear speakers
DCM KX-Center Dual 6" 3-way 5-125W center speaker

I am wondering if the CV's or small JBL's should be swapped with the Omega speakers for the rears on the main system and then move the Omega 10" speakers could be used as the main speakers on the second system?? Does this make sense or should be back speakers be bigger on the main system since the front speakers are bigger?

I am also wondering about placement of the rear speakers on the main system. Since they are big speakers they are put on top of book cases in the corner of the room and since they are big, the are on their sides facing straight forward towards the front speakers. I know sometimes the rear speakers face in (towards each other) or at a 45 degree angle towards the center of the room. Due to space considerations my rear speakers are up by the wall and between is the couch up against the same wall so the speakers are barely behind the listener. I have created a picture to depict the room setup:

Suggestions about changing speakers or speaker placement would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would go with the Omegas as mains on the second system, unless you listen to alo of SACD or DVD-audio. If you do mostly home theatre, you really only want mid-range and treble in your rear speakers, since those frequencies are the most directional to a human ear. It doesn;t hurt to have the bass, but it's just not really needed. A good pair of front mains, or even better, a sub, will fill a room with bass. Bass is omnidirectional, and doesn't need to be sent at you from all directions. :)

Thanks to the confirmation of what I guessed..

The second system is 99% satellite system movies.

What about the direction to point the rear speakers? straight forward or towards the listener (almost straight towards each other)?
