System Audio system driven by Denon DVR-3805 ?

First and foremost -- since this is my first post -- a big HELLO to you all

My "problem":

I am trying to build a home theater setup that is "decent" (i.e. above average ;) )
for audio listening (I'm mostly into classical / acoustic). My current idea is revolving around the Denon DVR-3805 receiver. The speaker system I intend to use is from System Audio (system-audio.com). Specifically, I am considering:
- SA1550 fronts
- SA505 backs
- SE200 sub
- SA510V center

My questions:
- Any experience with those speakers ? The whole setup ?
- Any issues wrt speaker impedance ? Since all speakers are 4 ohms I've read oppinions that suggest _not_ using the "mass market" DVR-3805 to drive such system. Any oppinions ?

Many TIA

The Denon receiver is only rated for a 6 ohm load. Will it handle 4 ohm speakers? Probably if not driven too hard. If it were me, and I was set on that speaker choice, I'd either look elsewhere or use the Denon as a pre-amp and purchase a better power amp to go with it.

In the US, the Denon is the AVR 3805. The site for your speakers is very limited. I didn't see any specs on those speakers. The towers seem very small-says they are only as wide as a compact disc. That may be too much receiver for those speakers if they were efficient. If you've ever hooked up a car 6X9 3way speaker to your home setup, you know it takes an inordinate amount of power to get them to play loud. 4 ohm is too much strain on any home receiver. I'm not knocking those speakers, but they may be rating them at 4ohm to hide the fact they can't handle the power at 8 ohm, and may be so inneficient to protect the fact they are small. I'd say great Denon amp, but find some 8 ohm speakers. Have you looked at the Bic Acoustech setup? They are affordable, and rated higher than a similar Klipsch setup... Not sure how available they are in Sweden, especially with shipping! The finish is beautiful and I've owned Bic speakers. Wonderful sound. Just my .02

Hmm...not sure if I read you correctly there. _Some_ specs are there. E.g. for the fronts (SA1550) they are:

SA1550:
power handling: 175 Watts
impedance: 4 Ohms
frequency response (+/- 3 dB): 40 - 35.000 Hz
sensitivity (1W, 1m): 90 dB
crossover (24 dB/oct.): 700 / 3000 Hz
dimensions (W x H x D) cm: 13 x 105 x 27,7
Other details: 4 woofers, 1 tweeter; Option for bi-amping/bi-wiring; rubber base; 2 1/2 way system, etc, etc.

Or you actually meant more detailed specs ?

The reason I got the "courage" for asking the question in the first place is that the review for the [D or A, pick ur poison]VR 3805 here at audioholics used 4 ohm speakers (RBH Sound 1266-LSE) that were pushed to 97 dBs "without a sweat" (to literally quote from the review).

Moreover, since it seems to be possible do bi-amping with the 3805 (from the same review) and the speakers I am considering do support that option it should mean that (theoretically) they could be "pushed" more even if they're just 4 ohms (Side note: The fact of how "smart" --or not-- is doing bi-amping with the 3805 and/or doing it w/ those speakers notwithstanding)

Anyway, as always, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I'll try to get the receiver anyway and do a test w/ those speakers.

Lastly, thanks for pointing out the Bic speakers. They sure look nice. Judging only from the specs they should deliver quite a bass but the highs look a tad low (21/22 kHz... distortions/softness ?). However it may be, after a very quick search (admitedly) I cannot find them anywhere near me and I have to more or less choose smth "closer". But thanks anyways for the tip.

Yup. I did find some on a google search. Nice looking set. Appears they've been around for some time. You'll never see those in the states! I can tell you my Polk RTi10's need a lot of power to get them going. I've read they are actually 4 Ohm unless you biamp them. At 89db, you can imagine the heat my Denon is putting out. They do sound awesome and the Denon delivers without a hitch. If you are going to drive power hungry speakers, that's one receiver that can handle it. A lot of guys in this forum will tell you biamping this unit is not necessary. I don't-but I run a 7.1 setup. Like you said, the only way to really tell is to get them in your place. I'd definitely get a second setup to compare those to also.
