System Advice - Please

My wife and I have just moved into a new house that was wired in 1994.
It has a home cinema on the third floor that is independently wired,
On the first floor living room (source room) there are four speakers (2 front wall and 2 ceiling rear) I have identified 4 green cables that are attached to these speakers.
The adjoining sunroom has 2 ceiling speakers, as has the deck area - the sunroom has two volume control units that are side by side and , presumably, control the sunroom and deck speakers . I have identified one wire that terminates in the source room and which controls both these sets of speakers.
On the second floor the bonus room, bedroom and bathroom have two speakers each (total 6) and each room has a volume control and IR receiver panel. I have identified one cable in the source room that controls all the 6 speakers
I have tried to identify a location where the system cables may junction but cannot and am presuming that it is in the walls somewhere
I have compiled a crude schematic of the set up

An av shop has said that this apparent wiring of speakers in series is old fashioned and potentially dangerous. They have recommended a stereo receiver ( marantz 4320) and a speaker selector 4 zone ( speakercraft).

Question: I am not too technically minded and am hoping that youy can advise:

What is the best set up for this wiring
Will the suggested kit work OK?
Any other comments
