Syntax-Brillian marketers of Olevia-brand LCD and LCoS micro-display TVs will close or spin-off it's LCoS micro-display and light engine operations located in Tempe and completely drop the product line by the end of the year. They're hoping the move will bring in a one-time non-cash charge of $40 million plus a yearly reduction in costs of $16 million.

A spoke person for the company said the decision will affect some of those employees and officers that came to Syntax-Brillian from Brillian. The company will still produce LCD TVs in their plant in California and Asia.

As for their legal battle with Funai (who is suing them for patent infringement), they say they will fight vigorously in court and that this should have no impact on their production, distribution and sales of the company's products. Buyers beware.

This company has perplexed me for some time. They have more cash than Bill Gates (seemingly) sat on technology without products for about 2-3 years, bought out an LCD company, and are now selling of their LCoS operations (the whole thing behind the parent company to begin with).

It's a mad, mad, world...
