Syntax are real jerks when it comes to warranties, they are only good 'to the orginal purchaser' - I got my daughter one as a gift and even got a 'thank you' for registering the TV. Now they say they stick to the letter of their warranty and wont honor it since she's not the orginal purchser- BEWARE!
(Yes I tried checking with State Attorny General, FTC etc - all they could say was 'go see an attorney'). Warrantly clearly states, its only good for the original purchaser.

Tom,
Have your daughter "gift" it back to you if it's still under warranty. There's no title to a tv set, so as long as you're in the warranty period, it shouldn't matter.
That's pretty much standard with all electronics. If anything goes wrong, the original purchaser should retain a copy of the invoice, and file the claim themselves. I've purchased a lot of electronics for family, and luckily haven't had an issue, but if something did go wrong, I'd have them call me to file the warranty claim.
If Syntax gives you the run around after you've personally filed the claim after you've "taken back" the tv from your daughter (say, she doesn't want it b/c she bought a larger one and gave it back to you), then I'd definitely file a complaint with the BBB, Angies List, etc... They've had major, major issues with rebates and customer service as well. It doesn't surprise me seeing their low margins they charge on these sets. I've read elsewhere when there is a problem, their "in house" repair is usually a couple of teenage tech kids who mess with the set a few times, not fixing it, and never following up.
BTW, what's wrong with the set?
