Synch problems with HDTV and AV receiver

I recently purchased a Sony 50" SXRD and upgraded my satellite to Dish Network's HD-DVR receiver. I connected them via an Audioquest HDMI-1 cable. Also, I have RCA cables connecting the audio from the sat receiver to my AV receiver, which is a Pioneer VFX D497. In addition, I have a Panasonic DVD S97S DVD player with 1080i upconverter. I have that connected to the TV via an Audioquest HDMI-1 and to the receiver via a Monster Optical Audio cable. The problem I am experiencing is that occasionally, when watching either satellite or DVD, the audio doesn't quite synch up with the video. As far as I can tell, the audio is actually AHEAD of the video by a fraction of a second. It doesn't happen all the time, nor does it happen on every satellite channel or every scene in a particular DVD. There seems to be neither rhyme nor reason to the non-synching issue. I have tried different permutations of component connections, and so far have found no solution. I have tried high-end RCA cables, low-end RCA cables, Monster Optical Audio, etc. I don't think I can change the delay on my receiver, and even if I was able to, I'm pretty sure it would be screwed up again whenever I changed channels. When I play the sound through the TV's built-in speakers, the sound and picture are synched up perfectly. But who wants to listen through the built in speakers? I have tested the audio through the receiver and the TV speakers simultaneously, and there was a noticeable lag. I am not using a surround sound setup due to the configuration of my room; instead, I am running everything through a pair of DCM Time Window speakers. Okay, so am I the only one out there having this problem? Is anyone else having synch issues with their HDTV? What can be done to fix it?

The new non-CRT based displays require the receivers/pre-pros to have a lip-sync feature to correct the problem. Time for a new receiver.

Thanks for the bad news. Can you recommend any receivers with this feature?

What receivers have this lip synching feature? Where can I do research on it? Thanks!

Most of the new receivers now offer the feature, but you'll need to do the homework to be sure. Check features list or download the manual.
