I'm so confused, and know just enough to know, I don't know jack {or george, LOL}

Anyway, I have a totally mismatched speaker set, some old towers {probably older then most of the people here}, rebuilt with new woofers a few years ago. Center is a Infinity Alpha, surrounds are an older set of Infinity quads. Home built sub using madisound's design.

Sony 995 receiver.

In general, I've never heard small speakers that I like for music. Finally heard some omnistats a couple of weeks ago, and besides the fact one of the speakers was bad, they sounded way too tinney to my deaf ears. But, I love the way most satellite systems handle movies.

Finally, out of the few speakers I have listened to, absolutely love the infinity Beta 50 towers for music.

Now for the questions:

  • Can I match the Beta 50's with center and surround speakers and still enjoy movies?
I know this is an especially subjective question, but will the Infinity satellites sound tinney too?
    What about Infinity TS4000?
It may appear I have an affinity for Infinity... Brand is unimportant
I could set a personal limit at $1,000, maybe start running into problems with SWMBO at $1,500

Here's some pictures of my horrible room dynamics

King and queen thrones with the surrounds right on top of us on the rear wall

Nice sound absorbing wall, with a temporarily blocked LF speaker.

Here's the other side with it's highly reflective properties

Thank you for your review and help

Somewhat disappointed the troll can get 22 pages of help...

Anyway, I pulled the trigger on Beta 50's, 360 center, and 250 surrounds today. Yesterday went and listened to the NHT series, and did not like the towers at all, the bookshelf speakers were actually better then the towers. Thank you to Mike C for his PM help.

I'll let you guys know how the system sounds once it gets set up.

This is a new one for me, what is SWMBO?
Inquiring minds want to know. That and the wood grain on the WALL in the picture confused me. For a moment I thought it was the floor and that half the room was in warped space :D I thought "neat!"

Are you talking about the ingenious idea of surrounding a fireplace with wood? Or my unfinished project from this summer finally removing the room A/C unit.

SWMBO, as you saw is she who must be obeyed :)

Lol, I must have not seen FeLung's post for some reason! On the other hand, you'll never run out of fuel for your lovely fire place :)

Yikes! Is it contagious and is there a vaccine?

Nick
They catch it from the gold you agree to put on their finger. The vaccine is very expensive, and is commonly available in high rent district from divorce lawyers.
