Switching from 5 disc player-Need help

I am currently using a Yamaha DVD C750 5 disc player. It was working pretty well, and still works fine for CD, SACD and DVD audio. Lately it was been randomly skipping wile watching DVD's. So I am either keeping the player or passing it off to a relative depending on some feedback here.
Does anyone recommend a single disc player that will yield better results for around $300? I am only using the component out for now, but will be upgrading the TV in a few months to DVI or HDMI, so that feature would be good down the road. I have been pretty pleased with the video performance of the unit, but is there a unit out there that will be better if I am only using the component outs?

All depends on your needs

I have yet to find a multi-disc changer that can match the performance of a single disc player. So I have stayed with single disc...

The choice depends on the exact features you need from the new player, of the bat here are some stand out devices in the areas mentioned.

If video over DVI/ HDMI is primary focus look for Oppo Digital DVD player (exemplary performance on DVI, not so good on component);

If video over component is primary focus look for Panasonic DVD player;

If audio is primary focus look for Onkyo CD/DVD player;

What I am looking for is better video performance over component now, and over HDMI 6 months down the road.
Looks like the Panny is a real good choice from what I have read online.
Do you think it is a better choice than my Yamaha, which has received good reviews?

Denon 1920. It's $350 MSRP, but you may be able to find it for less online. Based on their similar models, it should be a solid performer. It should give you a good balance of video quality and audio quality in the price range.

Panny s97 would be my second choice.
