I am going to need an HDMI switcher as my receiver is an older one without HDMI. I have read the review on the oppo hm-31 and it seems to be a good performer.I was wondering if anyone has any info on Monoprice's switchers? Is it as good or better than oppo's? Any info would be helpful.

i have a Monoprice 5X1 Automatic switcher that has worked flawlessly. For ~$37 + shipping it would be hard to beat in my opinion. Can't help you with the Oppo switcher never read or heard any opinions on one. Monoprice hard to beat.

I have installed about a half dozen of the 5x1 Monprice switchers with excellent results. I only had one issue with using it with a DirecTV receiver where it wasn't happy.

But, if you intend to hook it up right away and if it doens't work, Monoprice typically is happy to take care of you.

I am actually working tonight and installing one with a Gefen HDMI over RGB adapter and it is working flawlessly.

I have been reading this unit doesn't seem to work with any panny blue ray players.I will be getting either the oppo or the panny 60 model.I hope I have not wasted my money purchasing the monoprice 4x1 switcher.

I have somewhere else about this little flaw also. The fix for it seemed to be that if it doesn't work in the first 3 ports for some reason or another port 4 will work. I did not check the model number for the 4 port switcher is this one of the auto type? The 5X1 i was using was the auto switcher that worled very well, it detected what source was being played. Hope this helps if you do indeed have any problems with this set-up. Good luck.

the model is the HDX-401E or 4088.When I get it I will give that a try.Hopefully I will have no issues but I have seen a lot of reviews that people have written stating the pannys don't work and that the 5x1 is better for some reason.

If you get the Oppo it is a moot point because mine works with either way, though I only have the 2x1 and I did read that the issues of them not working with certain players were with larger models.

I'm not sure on the 4x1 switcher as I've never bought anything smaller than their HDX-501 switcher (5x1). People always seem to add stuff to their system so I've got no idea why everyone wouldn't just spend 10 or 20 bucks more to get the big one from them.

I'm currently using a BD60 Panasonic with the 501 with a Gefen HDMI over RGB extender and it works fine.

I bought the 2x1 originally because I had a paypal refund so it only cost me like $10 :)
