Swans is the speaker maker that is a subsidiary of the Chinese driver manufacturer Hi-Vi. They've got great reviews and from what I've seen, great specs to boot.

I personally haven't heard Swans or Wharfedales (sorry man), but I can verify that Hsu and SVS are the KINGS of subwoofer value in the sub $1000 budget catagory. At $600, I think the PC 20-39 is a great buy. It will give you deep, powerful bass. I've seen the 25-31 shake things around in a room, so I can just imagine what its bigger brother will do.

I'm not sure how Newegg is about "trial periods" with speakers. I know that direct dealers like Ascend, SVSound, Axiom, and AV123 all offer at least 30 days of in-home trial. It will be important to be able to audition the speakers before you have to make a commitment as they are a very important and ultimately the most objective component you will buy.

Don't overlook the importance of room treatments. Your room is a huge part of your system's sound. It's something you need to address when budgeting money (maybe not right away, but it should be one of your first "upgrades").

They are great!

My friend has the Diva 6.1 and they have awesome sound, build quality and looks!
Excellent sound value for the prices (from Newegg)!

I'm gathering the money for a pair of Diva 5.1, C3 Center and a pair of R3, all in Rosewood finish. Newegg is currently out of stock on the SWC3 Rosewood.

The AV123 are slighly different than the Swans. Differences are: (from my research): Swans has a more natural Rosewood finish, AV123 are more "reddish". Drivers are different, can not comment on which brand is better, since I have not heard them side by side.

Audo Insider has a version of the Swans also, however with different drivers.

(Note: Swans Hi-Vi only sells complete speakers through Newegg or Audio Insider. I tried to buy direct, couldn't) You can purchase components from a few retailers also for DIY/s.

You should enjoy them.

The swans look like an excellent value for sure, atleast compared to everything else out there in that price range. Also, when you are looking at speakers, just a word of advise, they dont always have to have a whole bunch of woofers or 8, 10, 12, 14" drivers to sound amazing. My Sinclair SB2600T's have 2 6.5" composite woofers with phase plugs and one soft dome tweeter and they sound freaking awesome :D Size doesn't always matter.

Swans could possibly be the SVS of the speaker world. HiVi makes some excellent drivers, and they've figured out they could put these drivers in beautiful cabinets and compete with the best that's out there.

The new versions of the Swans feature the awesome "bullet" tweeters, but have dumped the 2" dome midranges and yellow drivers that were so popular in the original versions.

There is a ton of info on Swans at the AVS forum. Just do a search, and you'll find plenty of owners - none of which have any negatives to say about the brand.

For the money and what I've read, the SW5.1 towers are almost impossible to beat.

I just got done looking through all of the various speakers on their site - WOW they have a lot of VERY nice looking choices. The review's on newegg aren't tremendous, but those speakers to be their lower line.

Does anyone have any experience with Swan pricing, model lines etc? Is it all looks and no quality? I can't imagine if they can design this many different setups (there has to be 30+ systems) that they would be horrible? They really have some interesting stuff such as the Swans 2.2HT with 128 drivers!!!. Their top stuff appears many times to utilize ribbons?

or how about 13 tweeters, 20 woofers and 20 dome mid drivers lol (Swans F1HT)

or these unique looking Swans F5F

Swan Diva Series

I just found this thread, and too bad it never got traction. The truth about Swan is they start high and go to the esoteric line, and although they have a new owner group, the original company and their engineering team is located in California. All design and research for the speakers/drivers are done there, and that's why the speakers are still near the top. It's too bad more folks don't know about the Diva line, which may be the lowest priced high end speakers you can buy. Check the magazine reviews and you'll find they do extremely well. As far as powered monitors, their M200MK series are tops, with the MKIII being the ultimate (I have the earlier MKII, which is still sold). Think of a high quality bookshelf speaker, large 15lbs each, built in 70 watt RMS amplifier, 5 1/2 inch poly cone woofer and 1" laminated soft dome tweeter and my favorite large heat sinks across the back of the speaker with the amplifier. They can run off any preamp system (2 channel) or they give you the cabling to run off the back of your computer (mine has a Y connector with cable running to separate Def Tech subwoofer). My wife says it sounds as good as my $2000 surround system, and maybe it does.

Getting back to the Diva 5.2 and 6.2 floor standing speakers, they have the best imaging and sound stage of speakers that should cost 2 or 3 times their selling price. They have solid bass, and some of the most beautiful exotic wood you'll ever see; truly furniture quality in anyone's system
