SVS Subwoofers - What Was I Thinking?

What was I thinking not buying a couple of these when I first learned of them on Audioholics many years ago?!?

The purpose of this post isn't to review the subs, it's just to say WOW. I've been a forum member here for 18 years, and I've wanted to hear an SVS sub for most of that time. Well ladies and gentlemen, if you haven't heard one, drop what you're doing and order one (hell, order two) now. With the 45 day no questions asked return policy, you have nothing to lose.

My wife, whom I've decided I shall keep, ordered me a PB 2000 from the SVS Outlet for Christmas. The sub ended up showing up after the holiday, so I had some time to browse Craigslist and Offerup. While waiting for the 2000 to arrive, I found a 1 year old mint PB12-NSD for a great price. After running both of these, I have some initial observations.

First, I'm done with big box store subwoofers. As in NEVER AGAIN.

Second, These subs have forced me to completely rethink what a home theater subwoofer should sound like... Better yet, how it should perform.

Third, I had never experienced sub 20hz bass before. Turns out I like it. I like it A LOT.

Lastly, I want all of you to experience the jaw dropping joy I felt when I calibrated and fired these behemoths up. So please, show yourself some respect and buy yourself a sub from SVS Post haste!

You are so screwed, next will be 3000 series subs, then 4000 series, . . .

You would have been better off getting addicted to crack

Experienced a similar high when I went with dual PC2k Pros. Congrats!

Yeah I know exactly what you are talking about. SVS gets a bit of backlash for some odd reason but they have great products and just about the best customer service out there.
I have the PB-2000 Pro and it's really fantastic. It's very cool what is can do. It can shake my house.

If you keep getting a sub that comes up to your child's shoulders you'll be well into the infrasonics rabbit hole in a few years time.

Definitely lol

I'm currently getting usable output down to 9.5hz in room.

It’s funny. I know you’re right based on every purchasing experience I’ve ever had. Thing is, I’m still very much in the awe phase. I haven’t found their limits yet, and while I’m sure I could, the sheer amount of depth and performance I’m getting now is still flooring me.
Hopefully I won’t outgrow these for a long time.

I'm just now realizing the irony of your user name being "bigbassdave" while you had subpar bass for so long. What did you have before the SVS subs?

That was my first thought as well.....

I have 2 SB3000s (though I am thinking about making a switch) and really like them. The support and service from SVS is amazing as well!

Ha, well it sounded better than "subpar bass Dave."

Most recently, I was running a single Triad Silver. It's a very solid sealed sub, but not on the same level as SVS. I've had dual Polk PSW505 subs in the past and they hit hard, but again... Comparing them to the SVS units I have now is like comparing a truck stop quickie to a long passionate night with Scarlett Johansson.

I have been considering this setup and am curious if there is a performance issue causing you to want to change?

Hey, if you close your eyes, you can have a truck stop quickie WITH scarjo.
The 505 is OK as an entry level sub. But as you found out it’s not even close.

Not answering him but, Iirc from his other thread, he’s looking for more low end output. Imo sealed subs roll off way too high. Their only advantage is smaller footprint.

The rolloff of a sealed can be somewhat more advantageous than that of a ported depending on tuning point and room details.....or just more sealed subs to make up the differences as well.

It CAN be but I think it would be pretty specific. Most people have a hard enough time getting one sub past the WAF lol. Let alone four to equal one ported. Iirc KEW(kurt) had problems with ported subs in his space. I think for some reason he was on suspended floor which changes the game.

Subs are one thing, SVS PB 4000 is another and as they say, " One sub to rule them all"

This is so common! So many underestimate what a great sub can do and It's so difficult for us to try to convey just how big an impact it can have on the whole system. That's why I love threads like this and I hope lots of people see it! Tryna convince folks to give more weight to subwoofage can really be an uphill battle.
