I have been wanting a new sub for no other reason than wanting a new sub. I spoke with Ed Mullen yesterday for about 10 minutes. His first question was, "Why do you want a new sub?" followed by, "Is yours broken or not working the way you think it should?" I paused... And said, "I just want a new sub". He said "Ok" and began a very informative conversation.

I'm still on the fence about which model I want, but I have to say Ed Mullen went beyond what I expected. He was generous with his time and answered all my questions and made appropriate suggestions.

I'm considering a SB12-NSD; SVS SB12-NSD - 400 Watt DSP Controlled, 12" Compact Sealed Subwoofer

Or

A SB-2000; SVS SB-2000 - 500 Watt DSP Controlled, 12" Compact Sealed Subwoofer

I've never spoken to Ed, but I've e-mailed back and forth with him (mostly in 2007 when I was shopping). I was always blown away by how much information he put into his e-mails, and he'd respond within a short time - on weekends. Just amazing, and one of the reasons that I'm such a fan of SVS.

I lost track, man. Last summer (I think), you wanted a Rythmik (again, I think) that went out of stock. I then asked if you'd be interested in SVS, and you said that you wanted to wait until that other model got back in stock. What changed your mind?

I just picked up the SVS SB-2000 and I really love it. I considered the other subs (and I spoke at length to a few different people at SVS) but this made the most sense for me. I have a small HT room so I didn't want anything too large. The ported and cylinder subs play more loudly at the lower end but that doesn't matter for me as I don't listen to movies at loud levels. Plus it's great for music.

Ed had been around the forums for many years and eventually wound up at SVS. He's definitely a good guy :)

I also vouch for Ed. Although I ultimately wound up with a Rythmik, Ed was very helpful and courteous in answering all of my questions.

Yeah, Ed apologized to me for taking so long to get back to me. It was a matter of hours. I thought it would be a day or two before I heard from anyone.

Good memory! Yes, I thought that the Rythmik was perfect for my needs. But, a bad phone conversation and unanswered emails changed my mind.
At that time, it seems I had read some customer reviews that SVS subs were not good for music. After some more reading and talking to Ed, I'm getting a SVS sub.

You got the new LV12-R. I think that replaced the sub I originally wanted. I'm glad you're happy with it. I think Rythmik makes great subs and there website is very informative.
I had a small, small, issue with customer service that put me off. If I'm honest, I would say it was more me than Rythmik. :eek:

No worries man. :) . I got great service from both Ed of SVS and from Brian Ding of Rythmik. Ed responded quicker than Brian but I always got answers from Brian as well but I was always sleeping soundly as Brian's responses came in at 2am. I attribute that to Rythmik be extremely busy. I was impressed with Brian's dedication and his willingness to work that late to get another satisfied customer.

I believe that both companies will look after their customers and offer great performing subs.
