For a sub, I'm looking at the following SVS subs...

PB12-Plus/2
PB12-Plus
20-39 PC Plus

Do the PC and the PBs above SOUND pretty much the same?

Yes, the cylider and box subs sound the same, and the PC + and PB + would have the same output. The cylinder is less expensive and much easier to move around, and is also more rigid due to the round design. But if you can afford the Plus/2 go for it, there is no such thing as too much bass, you just have headroom.

The SVS PB12-Plus is $949 +$99 shipping and the PB12+2 is $1099 + $99 shipping - available only in textured black as part of a limited quantity closeout sale. If you wanted a wood color you could look at the PB13 Ultra. For reference, a ranking of subwoofers is provided by Craigsublist at the site listed below.

As can be seen there are a number of good sources and options for good subwoofers.

ah.... head spinning

Well, like everything else in my life... it appears that my the price of my taste far exceeds the depths of my pockets.

That problem aside, it has also become evident that I don't know enough to separate the contenders from the pretenders. After visiting each and every new manufacturer's website, I'm certian that I found THE one.

Then I find one that looks just a little bit better for ONLY an extra $150. Now these bastids have me looking at stuff that I know I can't afford, but I also can't imagine going back to where I started.

I guess I just need to take a step back for a day or two, and hit it again on Monday.

Go Big!

It appears that you have a pretty big space, so I say go as big as you can. I'm not sure of the exact cu ft., but assuming you have at least 8 ft ceilings, you are looking at at least 6,500 cu ft. Plus, you mentioned that it opens up into a stairway leading to a second floor. So, it seems you have alot of space to pressurize. However, if you have a door to close off the upstairs, that may not be a big deal. Either way, it looks like a pretty big room. I myself am currently looking for a good sub, looking around just like you and haven't made up my mind yet. I don't have as big a space as you, but I have vaulted ceilings that go up 14-15 feet. So, I'm trying to "go big" too. Go as big as you can, Man! :)

That ranking list is slightly outdated. Craigsub has moved to a new board. The new list has some new subs on it that have recently come out, as well as some other popular ones: http://www.tweakcityaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11

Call or e-mail SVS and get their recommendation. I have not dealt with them but I have read that they wont "oversell" you. Doesn't hurt to see what they have to say.

My guess is that you'll need one of their big ones...:)

Write SVS for a rec.... did that

And wow, what a response.

They wrote back with a ton of information. Very helpful.

It is all a lot to take in. Really wish I lived in, or more near, a bigger town where I could talk face to face and demo some stuff.

Don't have that option here.

I appreciate everyone's input here.

Honestly, the Ultra is the best sounding sub I've ever heard, not to mention it goes deeper than.... Even if you don't go with an Ultra, SVS has some fantastic subs. THeir NSD series subs will do you right. My point of posting here though is that they make great sounding subs based on my experience and what so many others have posted about them.

That is a huge room. If your budget is around $1100 (the top end of the range you mention), i'd get two 25-31PCi's. You're going to need multiple subs for that size room...

Thanks mike....

Ultimately everyone here has given great advise, its a huge room... For good quality effortless bass, 2 subs would be the way to go...
I'm running Dual SVS Plus/2's in my 8200 cu ft room, and Its more then enough, but a single Plus would be a good amount of bass in your large room, but if after a while you when you really start to get more into bass, and start pushing it, it won't cut the mustard. Dual plus's would be far better, or like abboudc's suggestion to get dual 25-31PCi would fit into your budget.

There are alot of budget subs around, the one I have for sale is a good quality sub, but it offers great asthetics.... If that is not necessary, then there are lots of other alternatives.... that might be more budget oriented...

There is nothing wrong with getting a single sub, and then later down the line add a second...

I know you do, and I'm sure, as Mike stated, that you a quality seller. I really appreciate the offer, and maybe on down the line you'll have something that I'll need and we can help each other out.

Silly as it may sound... Right now I"m kind of wrapped up in the looking / question / research aspect of the whole deal. Final inspection was yesterday and I got my C/O... was touch and go for on a few issues. Anyway, I'll make the stereo equip order once everything is all moved in. That starts tomorrow. Point being, I'm really really looking forward to tearing open that box with the brand new speaker in it... even if I pay a 10% premium for that feeling.

Maybe two is the way to go for that big old room.

Thanks all.

I love that pic of your Ultra! Mine is being assembled while we speak, shipping April 30th. It won't be as pretty, but my Samsung, and all Aperions are Piano Black. I almost wish I still had my Hsu VTF-3 HO Turbo to A/B them, but Craigs ratings don't even have them in the same league so it seems.

Hsu - 94 points
Ultra - 109 points

My room is only 2500+ cubic feet and opens into 2 other rooms. I have dual MFW-15s.

Two subs might really be the way to go to fill that huge room. One would work but two would give better options to smooth out the sound.
