kind of a budget, under 700 for the sub set up, 1-12" and no, space is not an issue. i just want to buy something good that i will be happy with, unlike those crappy home theater in a box type subs. i want something that i can enjoy for years that would be a good match for the polk RTi10's.

thanks for your input

take your budget ... add 50% (this is to counter buyer's remorse) then pick the baddest SVS sub you can afford

If size is not an issue, go with the PB12-NSD. It will play lower than the SB12 Plus and you will save $100 over the SB12+ The PB12 is a ported sub, vs the SB12 is sealed. That being said, I have the SB12+ and love it. I needed to have the higher WAF, so I went with the SB12+. I find that the SB12+ is great for music, and good for HT. You should email SVS with your room volume, layout, and needs (music vs. HT) and they will help point you to the right sub. Don't worry, they won't over sell you! Their customer service before and after the sale is EXCELLENT.

Since the pb12 nsd will play lower then the sb12 plus does this mean it has more output. This often confuses me:eek:. I've listen to both and they both sounded great but WAF is a priority and I think the sb12 would have more output as it has a bigger amp, am I wrong? Output and lower extension are both relevant but isn't it a matter of taste anyways?:)

The PB12 NSD will have more output. It is a much more efficient sub. The larger amp is needed to overcome the sealed enclosure and produce Xmax. Playing lower has little to do with output, but more to do with tuning. A larger ported enclosure will have a much easier time reproducing lower frequencies compared to a smaller sealed enclosure.

Wild, if space isn't an issue, I'd highly consider the NSD/2 if you can stretch the budget a bit. If not, the PB12 NSD and Elemental Design A5-300 would be my next choice.

Two subs in this house.

Hsu VTF-2 six years old and sounds just as good today as when I purchased it.

Rocket UFW-10 six months old. Great tight sealed sub that packs quite a punch for such a small enclosure. It was a great deal when they had them on sale for $399 back when I bought it six months back. It has an added bonus, the exterior finish is stunning. You don't mind having it visible in your living room.

Almost forgot, a POS Paradigm PDR8. Gathering dust in the closet.

I started with a Ganz Klar bandpass 8" woofer (thinking it was the $hit with all its crawling boom)

then I bought me a JBL HTIB 10" subwoofer - pretty good if you don't know what you are missing

then I bought the Velodyne DLS-5000R - this is the bomb for HT, has a remote control too

then I bought the Axiom EP500 - it did everything the DLS-5000R did but it's smaller (except for the remote and DSP functions)

then I bought what I thought was the ultimate consumer subwoofer, the Velodyne Digital Drive 18" - it's for people who has a large portion of their audio usage for music. because it doesn't boom (no distortion), but that's not really good for movies - at least for me.

the reason I said "thought to be the ultimate subwoofer" is because I'm envious of those who have the JL Audio Fathom/Gotham and say it's better than the Digital Drive.

PB12 Plus/2 in oak. It's the ultimate sub for the price IMHO - I've not heard a single driver sub in my search that equals it for HT, and I've been to quite a few shops. I could probably build one for less, but the cabinet would be no where near as pretty as this SVS. To be fair, I've not heard the Axiom lineup, but it would have to fill a tall order to equal these dual Plus drivers. What impresses me the most is the Plus/2 sounds great at all volume levels.
