I'm interested in the SVS Prime tower speakers. In the review on audioholics it says you need a solid receiver to really deliver good sound from these speakers. I was planning on pairing this with a Yamaha RX-V679BL 7.2. You can view the product on amazon here. https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V679BL-7-2-Channel-MusicCast-Bluetooth/dp/B00VIRG3GO/ref=sr_1_1?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1480355996&sr=8-1&keywords=yamaha+receiver+679

I think it has up to 150 watts per channel. Would I run into sound problems and/or not fully optimizing the sound if I try to run the Prime speakers w/ center speaker and probably 2 satellites. I'm not sure I have much budget left to up the ante on the receiver.

RX-V679
Output Power (1 kHz, 10% THD, 1-ch driven, 8 ohm) 150 W
Output Power (20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.09%, 2-ch, 8 ohm) 90 W

150W rating is for one channel. For the Prime speakers, I'd still say at the nominal 90W, it will be sufficient. I'd go with all bookshelf models and put more funds toward the sub rather than the towers with that receiver.

bookshelfs are a really good idea to stretch your budget a little. with a good sub (or pair of subs) you won't miss much compared to towers. there are a pair svs ultras on ebay for 800 right now. you can stumble across some at that price in svs' outlet as well (recommended), though there appear to be none in stock at the moment.

I just bought a pair and can say that they sound incredible. with some music I don't even need the subwoofers on.

folks sure do like these here too on the more budget end. I've never heard them myself, but have read that they sound incredible for the price and dig pretty deep. I trust the judgement here.

Yep, you're good with your choice of AVR as long as the room you're using isn't overly large and you're not looking for insanely loud levels.

I have 2.1 setup with the Prime Towers and SVS SB 2000 sub with the Denon 1912 which I'm upgrading to Denon x2100 7.2 because of features. I listen to music in stereo 99.9% in a medium size room which the Primes romance my listening pleasure, with the Denon, simply fantastic. Listening pleasures is based on one's preference along with features that avr's provide, while Yamaha is good, Denon & Marantz would be my choice due to having Audyssey features, along with some others. A popular place alot of us here shop and buy at is accessories4less, why not take a look there also, as 3db said factor in the room size...Enjoy!!!

I checked out the site you mentioned. Good prices but looks like much of everything is factory refurbished. That makes me a little hesitant. Have you had a good experience with a refurb item or have you seen positive reviews about that type of condition?

Almost everything is refurb BUT it also includes a limited warranty. If you check some of the deals, they also have new overstock items and open box items which both carry full manufacturer warranty. I've bought 2 or 3 receivers from them without issue. They are an authorized service center for most major brands which is why they have that kind of inventory.

Just to add to what J shared with you, I to and many of us here have purchased multitable components from accessories4less with great success along with there outstanding customer service, they're a authorized certified factory refurbished dealer which they stand behind the product, I advise not to purchase from dealers that don't have these confidentials also have purchased 2 avr's there as well with no issues and there still performing, the last was the denon 1912 3yrs ago which I'm running now and I'm going to get my x2100 denon there as well, I hope this has been helpful...Cheers[/QUOTE]
