SVS PC12-Plus

Anyone around here using the SVS PC12-Plus for audio only system? I need a small foot print but high out put sub for an audio only 2.1 system. This will be paired with my Ascend Acoustics RAAL towers.
Any feed back would be wonderful. Thanks

Why not put the SVS in the theater room and leave the Grotto where it is? I would think that would be a more effective way of using them. The SVS is going to be more effective in terms of output, especially down below 20hz.

Grotto is on it's last leg. It's almost 9 years old and I have had some intermittent issue with it. Time to upgrade.

I want to make sure it's very good for music. It won't be used for HT. There are some other choices out there. I had the Rythmik 12 and just couldn't get it to mix right or get enough volume out of it.

Music and subs is very subjective, but you may be happier with a sealed 15" Rythmik. I have not heard one in my room, but it did have a very musical character where I did hear it.

15x11 with a hallway at the end. Halway is about 5 feet long. It's a strange room. The Rythmik 12 wasn't very loud in this room for some reason. My grotto is however it's on it's last leg.

Especially with subs, more is always better. Its not about max output, its about even distribution of bass. You may be better off with two of something. I've been running 2.2 with a sub in the rear and its a great immersive experience!

I hope you properly wore it out!!!
I always thought it would be a cool sub to have (or maybe a Descent or Depth!).
However, I would truly expect an F12 to take it to school!

The Grotto has been in my HT set up for a long time. I moved it in and out of my audio system as needed. To me it starting to sound very loose and flabby as if the cone is wearing out or something. That and I have an intermittent issue with it turning off and on during playback.. Strange.. I am unsure of a subs expected life span but as I said above it's almost ten years old and has a lot of hours on it.
I'd would not hesitate to buy another one if they were still sold. It has been a great sounding sub and the build quality is top notch.

I can't say it would be my first choice for such a setup. The ported SVS subs deliver a respectable low end wallop; however, 40Hz+ really isn't their forte, which makes them so-so for a music only setup. I'd also note that looking at the cylinders on a webpage can be deceiving. It's only when you get them in room that you understand these things have all the aesthetic appeal of a black water heater. If you're used to subs like the Grotto and Rythmik F12, you'd be in for a surprise. About the only upside the PC12+ has is its various configuration options, which can help it meld to your room.

If you thought the F12 sounded a bit weak, I'd consider stepping things up a couple notches, depending on what your footprint restrictions are of course. At $1,200, a Reaction Audio Gamma 18 measures 20.5W x 22D, and ought to deliver more than enough output. You also get a 45 day in home trial w/ free return shipping if it's not everything you're looking for. I'd also check out the PSA S3000i, which also offers free return shipping if you're not satisfied.

For a small footprint, the PC12-Plus looks like it would do well. I don't know where you are going to get more output for the floor space, that thing has a 17" diameter footprint. I think the SVS SB13 Ultra would probably be better for the OP's purposes, its footprint is slightly larger, but it is more expensive, of course. I would be looking at the Hsu ULS-15 mk2, which is an 18" cube, that will certainly hit harder in the music ranges, 40 Hz+, and it is less expensive. It also looks nicer than a water heater.
