SVS PB12 Plus/2 vs. Axiom EP500v2

I'm a newbie and I'm trying to build a "reference" HT system to replace my current one. I listen 50/50 movies and music. I'm starting my new system with a new sub to replace my 100W BIC Venturi.

Which is a better sub, for both music and movies? The EP500v2 or the SVS PB12-Plus/2?

I've got 1750 cu.ft of listening area that is open to 8000 cu.ft of 2 story high living space.

Two different subs really. EP500 if you want a "musical sub", PB12+2 if you want maximum output for HT. IF your 50/50, EP500 would be my choice, or the new PB13 even though you didn't mention it, suspossed to be "tighter".

You probably already found out this info though.

Thanks Bill,

The new PB13's will be out of my price range. I can get a PB12+12 on overstock+return deal in piano gloss for $1200, which makes it basically the same price as the EP500.

Personally I'd go with the SVS,but the Axiom is very nice as well... but that piano gloss black sure is classy looking.

Yeah not sure how you could pass up on the price of the Plus/2 in Gloss Black deal, as well as the fact as they have a few Plus/2's on the B-Stock page...

In that room even a Plus would Kill... but I know your looking towards the future...

The popular sub review (I can't find the link) forum that many people have linked to on this site, gives the EP500 a score of 90, and the Plus/2 an 87. Right now, that's all I have to go on. That and the general concensus that the Axiom is more musical and the SVS is better for movies. I guess since the EP500 takes up less space, it would tip the scales in it's favor when it comes to the wife's acceptance.

They may talk about sound quality there a b it, and those numbers are quite a bit closer then they really let on... but with the Plus/2 you will be gaining a hell of alot of headroom, with the larger amp size, and dual drivers... not too mention the Fit and Finish is alot better. Much Prettier !!!!

Good luck...

The Axiom may be a bit more musical, but trust me, the SVS is no slouch when it comes to music either.

with your size of room, I'd hands down go for the SVS plus/2.

a musical subwoofer will sound horrible when pushed way beyond its capabilities. (your total room space is nearly 10,000 cu.ft.)

I could have went with any sub in the < $1500 price range. I went with the Plus/2 after demo'ing all the SVS subs, as well as probably 50 others in several states over two years. Until you've heard a dual box SVS sub, it's hard to explain how impressive these subs are.

I'm one who listens to music in two channel stereo mode. I've got large towers, so those of you with bookshelves may need a sub to round out your music. The Plus/2 sounds great with music as well. It's surprisingly fast for a huge dual sub box - must faster than my dual 10 box in my pickup truck - and that's in a sealed enclosure.
