Would this sub be a significant step up over a Mirage Omni-S12?

The Mirage Omni is an excellent performing subwoofer. But I wouldn't think it would have the impact of the PB12-NSD. JMO

I know of another member(Bluesmoke) who owned the s10.3 and is now the happy owner of the pb10:D. I would agree with Mazer that the SVS will have more impact because of its ability to dig deeper at higher SPL's and I'm an Energy kinda guy. I listened to the S10.3 in a demo when I was looking at buying my speakers and I haven't regretted my decision either.:)

PS: Okay maybe one regret, I wish I had the money to get the pb12:D

I have owned both and can say for sure the PB12-NSD is much better down deep. It just flat-out has more impact. However, the Mirage S12 was a bit more punchy and articulate sounding with music. Honestly, you could NOT go wrong either way. If, on the other hand, your preference is on HT then by all means go for the PB12-NSD. Hope this helps and good luck in your decision. Be sure to keep us posted. ;);)

I have the S12 now and really like it, however, my room is fairly large 2500cu ft wide open to a kitchen that is roughly the same size. I would like something that has a footprint similar to the Mirage, that is good with HT and music. And of course, a significant step up from the mirage in output. I am also trying to keep it <$1000. Others I have considered, Epik Castle and the MFW-15. More suggestions please

I would say no. I remember when Vanns had there sale and ppl compared them to the Pb10 because of the price. Pb10 went deeper but the S-12 was better with music. I remember because I had alot of interest in that sub but went with the Pb10 for HT.But I dunno I never heard them side by side or the S-12 just what I read when I was looking. The Pb12 is better but per Svs 50% better then the Pb10 for Ht. Music should sound the same. How ever they classified the 50% they say one Pb12 = 1.5 Pb10. So if you want a significant upgrade get a 15" sub. Epik, Hsu or Svs Ultra. 13.5" JMO

IMO depending on the crossove point, and lcr, the pb should win out. My only issue with some of the svs subs is when crossing over higher than 80 hz, more filters and eq need be applied. The svs subs definetly dig deeper with useable output. Im not sure of space requirements, are the cylider subs an option?

I found a place where I can pick up an Energy S10.3 for a good price. What if I added that in my system, Mirage S12 and Energy S10.3 in a dual configuration. I know they are not exactly the same, but they are designed exactly alike. What would I gain out of doing this?

I just recently upgraded to the Ascend 340's across the front. So far I am really glad I did. How do you like yours? As far as the Energy sub goes, I do not see where it would hurt. There was another member here that basicallly did the same exact thing with great success. If funds are tight, go for it I always say. Good luck in your decsion. ;);)

I really like them. I have had them for almost two years and they are very transparent. I thought about selling them and getting the Sierra's, but decided that, in my case, it would probably not be worth the extra money. I have a large room that needs high SPL's :D The 340SE's fit the bill for that one.

Thanks Gov and glad to hear you like the 340's. I have had mine for less than 30 days. I agree they are very neutral speakers, but find them to be very detailed. Wished I could get a demo of the Sierrra's. I am sure they are nothing less than fabulous.

how long did it take for your ears to adjust since your other speakers were Polks because recently having just gone through this myself, I wasn't so sure at first when I got my new speakers home. The the one thing about a neutral sounding speaker is the somewhat lack of detail at first, but when you actually listen its all there except its not fatiguing and puts a smile on your face.

Congrats on the new speakers, Bill:)

BTW Jacksmyname has the s10 and 12 and very happy with both.

Billy, I admit the new sound was different. It took me a bit to adjust, but once I did, lets say I am NOT looking back. ;);) The Polks provided for a very crisp sound-field. However, the Ascends have more detail and do it w/o fatigue. Even at lower volumes, I really can hear things that were not present when listening to my Polks. The Ascends can go quite loud w/o any break-up at all whereas the Polks would really start to sound harsh. I am sure you can tell that I am very happy w/my Ascends so far.

Cheers,

Phil

I'm really liking the Epik Castle now. This company is only 5 minutes away from my house!

Yes if you upgrade do it big. A smaller sub imo will only even out response not give you what you want. Some ppl claim the Epik Knight gives more omph than there old Svs Ultra. Go see the Epik thread @ Avs. I dunno I don't have an Ultra or a Knight but my Valor kills my Pb10's. If they are that close I would give them a listen.

The "Valor" is of some interest to me because of the footprint. Do you think its a big enough upgrade over the Omni S12?
I see they are out of stock on them now  Any idea how long before them get them in stock? Also, if its in stock, do I need to wait a month before I get it, even if I go into the store? It is really only 5 minutes from me :D

BTW, my room is about 2400sq open to a kitchen of about the same size. Between HT/Music its 50/50. I average 70-90db's.

3 weeks to build 1 week to ship. Bring your sub there and compare. Big room get at least a Knight. IMO I need this in 2,000^3

For my Ht taste. That would probably equal one Svs Ulta Pb13 ,Castle ect.. in spl. Maybe not SQ. That's why I say make it big and $ave. JME

Boy the Energy S12.3 (Mirage S12) can really hold its own! It is powerful except at 20hz. I think if I really want a noticable difference, I will have to step up to the Castle model.
I am also considering the MFW-15 from Av123.
