Hi all,
I know this comes down to listening preference and probably has been discussed before, but unfortunately I can only afford to buy one or the other; can't afford to loose the shipping cost on a return.

My current setup is listed in my signature below. I would like to add a subwoofer to my room that is 21'L x 14'W x 8'H. I have talked with SVS and they have great customer service, but I still can't decide. Am I making the right comparison with these two? I watch movies 95% of the time and music 5%. I want a subwoofer that is not obnoxious, but I can feel the real low bass. I've heard U-571 has those moments where you can't hear the bass but you can really feel it. That's the sub I want.

Thanks.

While my experience with both of these companies is not with these exact models, given these two choices, I would go with the SVS.

Neither of those subs will be obnoxious. You really can't go wrong with either of them.

My sub can actually make me feel sick when I watch U-571.

If it was up to me; I would go with the SVS.

I don't get sick, just a big fat smile when the depth charges hit :D

Offroad, where in California are you located? If you are in So. Cal, you could swing by the office and audition some subs.

The VTF-2 Mk3 would work great in your room, and offer some cost savings too. Based on your preferences you could choose to run it in maximum output mode or extended bass mode. I would put the sub sideways behind your couch if possible.

If your budget allows it, and the larger size is of no matter, then look at VTF-3 Mk3 too. That model has dual 4" ports and a bit lower port tuning too. But as long as your room doesn't open up into other large rooms, then the VTF-2 Mk3 should be able to fill the room very well!

Sincerely,

Sorry Peter, I'm up in Northern California...Bay Area. Thanks for the help though.

You room is smaller than mine, and I have been using the older version of the PB12 that was the downfiring version. I have been impressed with the sub. SVS also has great customer service. When my amp died, they shipped me another one, no questions asked. I may end up buying a PB13 ultra and retiring the PB12, but you will be happy with the SVS.
