Anybody have any insight on bang for the buck difference between
SVS PB-12 Plus vs. PB-12 Ultra? Wondering if the Ultra is worth the extra $

Would appreciate any comments anyone has...

Thanks!

If you send them an E-mail with your A/V setup, room size, listening taste and furniture, they will tell you with one will work best.

The Ultra is worth the extra if your room can handle it. For the money, I like the PB12-Plus/2 over the PB12 Ultra for the same money - if budget permits.

PB12-Plus/2
Twin 12" custom SVS proprietary, super high capacity woofers
SVS designed, full-featured 900 watt BASH (R) digital switching amp
Size: 19" wide, 26.5" tall and 28" deep. Weight: 140 pounds

Ive kicked this question around alot and have come to the conclusion that I like the ultra better. A lot of people say to get the PB12Plus/2 but thats a LOT of bass. I think the ultra is worth the money it should be louder and have a lot more sound quality. But youre best bet is to call them or E-Mail them and ask they have very good coustomer service. Any way you go I dont think youll be disapointed.

If you want the sound quality of the Ultra, but do not need the output and/or want a box of that size, you should try a Hsu VTF-3MK2.

Better yet, be one of the VERY few that have compared subs from both companies side by side, and choose the one more suited for your style and preferences in listening.

Well, when I listened to them side by side, there wasn't too much of a difference between them. I think if you are going to really push the sub to get high SPL out of it, you will want the Utra. They are both really good units though.

How much spl do you need. I just have the little old 20-39pci and i cant use all the spl i could get out of it.

I asked Ron that question yesterday, and he said that the Plus is the best bang for the buck, the Ultra is better.

I said I was a bass freak, and they still said the Plus was the best for me, they didn't try to upsell me on the Ultra, the Ultra will sound better but not $1000 better.

You might consider that they have more Plus units in stock, it's like the waiter pushing the Rock Shrimp special because they have 20 lbs of the stuff back in the kitchen. I have found Ron to be a very good salesman.

I just went through this decision process... And wound up ordering a PB-12 Ultra that will be delivered tomorrow. The way I figured it, I would always be wondering how much better the ultra is... I prefer depth over SPL. If the SPL isn't up to my needs, I can always add a second one later.
