Ok so I ordered the SVS SBS-01 5.1 Set Black with PB10-NSD which seemed to be very praised on this website. Unfortunatly got an email from SVS stating that there ENTIRE last production line was damaged by mold and water and that it may be up to 90 days before the new products are finished. I now have a brand new onkyo reciever sr805 sitting being unused (this is my first theater system) :( SVS will give my 20% off my complete order if i wait (basically shipping from Ohio to Cali)
My question is:
1. Is it worth the wait?
2. Is svs a reputable company that I can trust to not skimp corners since they had this big loss.
3. If its not worth the wait any suggestions on alternatives?

Welcome to the forum, badger!

Sorry that you have to deal with a delay like that. It's never fun to have to wait. I've had good experiences with SVS, and I believe them to be a reputable company. I don't think that they will cut corners.

As for it being worth the wait, I can't say. There are a number of good systems out there, and it depends on how badly you want to have something right now. 20% off is certainly not a bad deal, though. You could always take this opportunity to audition some other speakers from other places (like Best Buy and Circuit City, if they don't charge you restocking fees). You might find something that you really like, in which case you could cancel your SVS order. If you don't find anything that you like, you'd still have the SVS system coming your way.

I purchased a model from SVS and have been happy with it. As Adam has said, SVS would seem to be a good company to do business with. At least they were for me. They are doing what they can to make things more right for you. But, 90 days is a long time to have to wait. It really depends on how badly you want your SVS or how much you want something now. There will be other good choices out there. Do some looking around, see what you can find and then decide what to do.

1. That's up to you. There are certainly other speakers out there for the same price that are very competitive...

2. They are a very reputable company and won't take you to the cleaners. They ship on time, are honest, and have very good customer service when you need replacement parts (they'll even cross ship them to you).

3. The SVS subs are hard to beat. As for the speakers, comparable models can be had from Ascend Acoustics, AV123, Axiom, Mordaunt-Short, Aperion, etc. If you ask 5 different people they'll give you 5 different suggestions based on their personal preferences. What matters is your preference, and no one call tell you that but you. The speakers you ordered are well-made and backed by a good company, that's about all anyone can say with certainty ;)

For what it's worth, I have a friend with that exact setup and he loves them.

Best Buy, and Circuit City have nothing to compare to the SVS system. IMO the SBS-01 system is one of the best "Bang for the Buck" budget systems on the market today. It's a very good, well rounded system for HT, and music.

i was able to read that SVS email posted on another forum ...

Thank you for your recent speaker order with SVS. Since their introduction, the SBS-01 and SCS-01 lines have received accolades from press and customers around the world. While designed in Ohio USA by SVS engineers and extensively tested in our factory, these are built by the industry’s best factories to stringent standards we set and monitor.

This past week, the quality control (QC) process to which we subject all incoming products and components rejected the entire shipment of SBS-01/SCS-01’s. Your order was to have come from this group. Efforts to remediate damage due to excessive moisture and mold have proven unsuccessful. As a result, SVS will not be resuming shipment of these popular speakers until completely new units have been manufactured.

Considerable efforts at our Ohio factory and subcontractors are underway to accelerate production and also eliminate any chance for such damage occurring again. SVS’s famous subwoofers are still shipping and we’d love to send yours out immediately. However, we understand some customers may be unable to wait for their speakers and will desire to cancel all or part of their order.

Customers who want their subwoofer to ship now will garner a 10% discount for the inconvenience. Plus, we’ll still include your choice of a shirt/hat combo or Avia theater setup DVD. If you are in a position to wait for your speakers, we’ll ensure you receive an unprecedented 20% discount on them. Of course as soon as we solidify production and shipping dates we will inform you, although it could extend 90 days or more.

At your convenience, please let us know if you wish to cancel your order due to this unforeseen delay. SVS never compromises quality, and we appreciate your patience. We sincerely regret this failure to satisfy your order on a timely basis.

Sincerely,

Ron Stimpson

The SVS letter posted by Mike is what you would expect from a reputable company.

I purchased my sub from them, asked a couple of questions, and have been very satisfied with their customer service and responses to inquiries.
