Surrround Speaker Placement (my room)

Just bought some Axiom QS8s for my surround speakers. Question is on the placement. I've got to mount them to my wall and I have basically two options. The link below shows a few pictures of my room layout. I can either mount them both on the rear wall above the light switches on each side of the rear wall. Or I can mount the right surround on the rear wall and the left surround on the adjacent wall next to the bookshelf. The bookshelf could be moved if it would be obstructing the sound. I kind of think both on the rear wall would be best for sound quality but that is my gut instinct. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I would recommend as symmetrical placement as you can get.

My first recommendation would be symmetrical side wall mounting, however since you didn’t mention that option I’m guessing it’s not available? If you do have a right side wall I would mount them a couple feet back from the couch on each side even if it means putting them up high to clear a window on the right.

Assume the right wall is impossible then I agree with you that either side of the back wall would work next best. Anywhere from a couple feet above your head to about a foot below the ceiling will work great. Funk over at the Axiom forum just posted some pictures and comments about a similar placement (scroll to the last picture in the post).

My last choice would be the asymmetrical placement with one on the side and the other on the back wall.

There is no right wall. The room opens up into the kitchen. Looks like it will have to be on the back wall.

Could be hung from the ceiling on brackets to get a more side type mounting if that's an option.

Try to be as near as possible to the ITU R-775 recommendation: 30° front, 110° rear. All at the same distance from listener.
