surround speaker problem

I am barely getting any sound from my back left speaker. I know it's not the speaker itself because I switched the back left and back right speaker connection same thing happened. What could it be? Is it the connection on my HK avr230 or did I damage the speaker wires somehow when I ran it under the carpet? I also checked the positive and negative connection on the wires.

Try swapping the left and right surround wires on the back of the receiver. If the problem remains then replace the wires. If it switches to the other side then check the settings on your receiver - You may have the gain set wrong or there may be a problem with the receiver.

Or it could be the room acoustics.

Switch the right and left surround wires at the amp. If the problem remains in the same corner, then the answer should be obvious.

When is it that you don't get anything out from the surround speakers?
Did you ever level match your speakers with internal test tone or external DVD test tone and SPL meter?
