Surround on speaker

Hi, just a silly question but is it normal for the surround on a speaker to get small creases in it as the cone goes in and out, my tower speakers are new and i was wondering if this will go as the speakers wear in, cheers

That sounds weird to me, but not too out of the ordinary. Rubber especially can get little surface wrinkles as it flexes.

Are you seeing this while the speakers are playing, or are you pushing them in and out? What speakers?

the speakers are Yamaha NS-50F - HT Series tower speakers, it is when music is playing it is just a small wrinkles in the surround i don't think they are rubber

Definitely not something I'd worry about, especially if I saw it on both drivers on both towers.

Does it happen at moderate to low levels or high SPLs? Driving the woofers hard can cause them to become non linear and "wobble" causing wrinkles. I've seen subwoofers wrinkle in the surround, like the SVS Ultras high peak surround creases and wrinkles as you near its limit.

But thats just a guess. Might also be bad drivers as well.

it happens at moderate sound levels, i have it set so they wont play anything under 80hz, so they aint pumping heaps hard, there are four woofers, two in each tower doing it, when they are not running and i push on the cone gently the creases always happen in the same spot on each woofers

The surround is a very important part of a speaker from a sound quality point of view. As well as being the outer part of the suspension, the surround should kill the sound at the edge of the cone and minimize reflections back down the cone, which cause interference peak and null response errors..

They look like poor quality cheap drivers to me.
