I just got off the phone with JL audio regarding my duel F112"s. They do recommend plugging it into a surge suppressor but not something that does any type of conditioning as it limits peak current. What is everyone else using if any thing for protecting their subwoofer?

I wired a dedicated 20-amp outlet with an isolated ground, just for my sub.
I unplug it after I'm done using it. Nothing protects like, not being plugged in.

I know Monster is a bad word around here, but I have a couple of these because I got them dirt cheap.

Blasphemers and heretics! I know for a fact one of them is BI-wiring!

This kind of thing needs to be stopped!

(Check my sig. I'm so ashamed.) :p

What about a UPC H15? I know that is does both surge protection and regulation but i notice a lot of people are using them.

Are you looking for surge suppression or voltage regulation & surge suppression? If your voltage is high or low, "conditioned power" makes sense. The peak current issue is if you don't have a regulator that is powerful enough (which most people don't, because they are expensive). I think just about everyone on here just uses standard surge suppressors that wont change your voltage...

If you are just looking for surge suppression, Monster is fine, APC is fine... I have a pair of Line R 1250s here at school... I've had them for a long time and they have served me well..

If you are looking for voltage regulation (120V all the time), then the option lists gets a little shorter. There are two approaches. The first is to use a UPS, Uninterrupted Power Supply, because the battery is charged by your house electric, and then your gear is powered by the battery at 120V from a company like APC... you can just barely see the APC Smart UPS 1500XL that I have (look at the desk, by the feet of the chair, on the floor...the black thingy) ... sorry for the small pic, no camera handy and that's all I got

... I use that for my computer, but it has the juice to run a small stereo system too... I wouldn't try a big one though.

That's why back home, where my voltage is really high (up to 132!!), I purchased a Monster AVS-2000 Voltage Regulator / Surge Suppressor. Monster might not be a popular name around here, but I think that unit is kickass... it's about 70-lbs, works like a charm, rack mountable (comes with ears), and looks great. If your voltage is high or low, I think it is worth the thousand bucks or whatever, regardless of what JL tells you (I bet they use one at conventions, you just about have to!). I'm pretty convinced you could plug just about anything into it (big subs, etc), but it says not to go overboard. APC also makes a voltage regulator now as well. They are about a grand.

I have all this power stuff not because I think it makes a difference in sound, but because I've always lived places with crappy power so they just kind of accumulated. ;)

Nuff said, right?

Just in case it's not here's a good read on the topic at hand:

I use that HTS thing in my sig. for everything. It was an eBay deal. For various reasons I would go with Mazer's suggestion if I could do it over. However should you be interested in taking your chances on eBay:
