OK, a friend of mine is wanting to wall mount his new plasma and have a floating shelf under it for the cable box and PS3. We want to wires showing, which shouldn't be a problem except power. What can you do about a surge protector in that situation?

add an outlet behind the TV, mount the surge protector to the wall mount before hanging the TV.
This is what I did in the living room. You really can't beat the look of the "floating" element

Hey Sean, I'm a little confused about the wording in your post, so far as the wire issues. Sorry

Hubbell and Pass & Seymour make surge outlets that have audible alarms.
I've installed many, just for that situation.

We want NO wires (not "to") showing. Like I said we can take care of everything except power only because you normally want some kind of a surge protector. Hard to hide a surge protector :)
