Surge Protection and Power Conditioning

I have been shopping around for HT system for quite sometime and was wondering about the benefits of going to a power conditioning system such as an HTS monster system. I understand the need for surge protection and originally had planned on re-using what I currently have.

What benefits will I see by going to a "clean power" system and are they really worth the $$'s. I feel confident that what I have now will adequately protect my equipment from power surges.

If it is a benefit what sorts of things should I be looking for? What brands are good? How much do I really have to spend to get an adequate system? (I know when it comes to this kind of stuff the sky is the limit)

Any feed back or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Audio components have filters in them and they do operate on a pretty good voltage swings. If your power has such wide fluctuatuions, call the power company to have it fixed.

So basically you are saying that power conditioning is overkill?

I have to disagree. Power conditioning is a good investment...to a point. A quality unit from Furman, Tripp-Lite, APC, or Panamax will do the job without breaking the bank. A quality power conditioner will help reduce noise coming through the AC lines. It can also help supress spikes in the power lines.
