SuperCube 1 vs. Reference

I have been thinking about swapping out my supercube 1 for a reference series, anyone seen and heard the reference series, i want to know the good and bad on it. I am getting it for a dirt cheap price, brand new, i will say this, its below a grand with tax. I figured for the price, and size its a good deal. I just want to know all the feed back as possible.

I currently have the supercube 1 and its good, very clean sounding in my house but i want just some more bass Home Theater purpose, i believe it does a great job for music but just not enough for movies unless you crank up volume on the sub, i want to be able to use the sub at half the volume, rather than 3/4 of the way.

Well i just want as much feedback as possible, so lets here it!

I say get the Epik Conquest subwoofer.:D
Tom Nousaine tested this beast and it produced more bass than a $10K Velodyne and Genelac sub - if my MEMORY serves me right.:D

This Epik Conquest will go down to 10Hz!!!

I am going to stay with the Definitive brand for now, but one day i will make the call and get probably the SVS 13 Ultra when I get the extra money, right now i am tight but i have everything i could want in my house, it sounds nice.

I would take the Ultra over the conquest, actually I did just that. The Conquest is really really big, heavy, and kinda ugly. The SVS is smaller, lighter, well refined, and has beautiful finishes available, and more output than many people will ever need. But if you are sticking with definitive, the by all means get the reference.

i can get the reference for 900 brand new or get the ultra for 1699 brand new. Do the math. Maybe next year i can afford to upgrade my sub to my choice but right now, the reference is most i can afford, i am taking back my supercube 1 and upgrading to the reference model. its costing me 350 out of my pocket. I just want a good sub for Home Theater, i like to watch movies loud and i want to feel the sub when stuff blows up in movies or someone shots a shotgun. I am hoping the reference gives me that experience that i am looking for.

For $900, I'd go with either an HSU VTF-3 MK3 or Epik Sentinel.

The supercube reference is still a very capable sub, and if he wants to keep the brands the same, I see no reason why he shouldn't get the reference. I'm sure it will make him very happy.

I think he explains his madness in the thread somewhere. Maybe price and finish goes into the equation? He is on here a lot so ask him.
How did he score those subs?

Some of the subs with better measured results (20Hz/dB & 20-63Hz/dB) had Lower Scores!

Yeah, I agree. The SC Reference may not do 110dB @ 20Hz, but it may do 90dB just fine.

Heck, my wife won't even let me do 70dB @ 20Hz!

On a side note, I'm sure my AMC-24 movie theater only does 10dB @ 20Hz!:D

Whan I saw "Watchmen", I couldn't even hear the bass.

For a 1,000 you could buy a very very good capable sub from SVS or Hsu (check out B-stock on SVS) I am positive that the subs from SVS will beat out the supercube 1's and match the Reference for less money. But having a huge amp and larger driver is not always the best, I would contact SVS and see how two 500.00 SVS with 10" drivers would do in your room as compared to one sub. I have found that using multiple subs is always better than using one, but this depends on the sub and the location also. I like DT but their frequency response range has alot to be weary of.
