Holy mother of god!!!!This little 12 inch cube has a 2700 watt amp in it and I cannot grasp the sheer output of this thing. I have heard many subs but this Sunfire that I listened to today was on another level. I have listened to HSU and SVS in the last couple of weeks at various locations and am completely floored buy the Sunfire. It shredded anything I have heard until this point other than live sound subs. I just looked it up on ebay and there are a ton of them for under 500 used. It looks like I just found my new sub! Anyone else listen to the Sunfire sub? Opinions?

Yes, I am aware of it. A good friend had one who sold it to another of my friends. I thought it a terrible sub, unless you turned it to a low level where you could barely hear it, I was constantly aware of it honking away.

That was was got rid of as part of a dealer trade on new equipment.

There is more to a good sub than output, that is that subs only merit in my view.

Don't be too impressed with that spec.
Some time back, in another galaxy, or was it a audio website;) Dr. Hsu posted an analysis of that sub. To deliver 2700 watts, the speaker load had to be .5 Ohms or less:rolleyes: and for not very long time. Its output at the low frequency was not very good at all. Here is a link to his tests and he has two that I saw, not impressive

Thanks for that.I really just listened to a few songs with them and now that you mentioned it it had kind of a honkey sound to it. It moved my shorts leg at about 12 feet though and for a minute I was very impressed until I checked out specs and reviews. I guess that I am going with HSU or SVS.....

Yes, it may be heavy on a few frequencies but certainly not overall. But, some like it non the less:D

Sunfire is one of the companies that a lot of people just don't like... which I never understood. You seemed pretty crazy about that sub... who cares what the spec sheet says? If you liked it... then that's all that matters.

Then, why bother asking sound quality questions then, right?;)
No one cares about reality, why should they?

If a person likes the sound of something and another person doesn't then you recommend for them to throw it away????
I didn't mean to say don't listen to what is said for knowledge point. Also, don't let someone tell you that what you hear is wrong.

My dad has one of these, I thought it sounded wonderful. I bought one, and it sounded horrible. I think I just never got it set up correctly (I spent a lot of time trying to configure it and place it). It also hummed all the time, I tried several remedies for ground loops to no avail. I eventually sold it for dirt cheap because I couldn't stand messing with it's crap anymore.

It might work perfect for you in your home. Try it, if you don't like it in your home just return it, or sell it.

Easy for you to say, you gave it away dirt cheap:D
That's because I was crunched for money. If I had the time I would have been able to get more out of it, It was a "Need MONEY TODAY".

I doubt you would have got more out of it. I played with that sub far ages, including an afternoon in my basement in Grand Forks after Bob Carver came to town. He was in town as he is good friends with a colleague. He brought one into town with him. I got to play him the my biamped TL rig, which are now my center backs, after moving them to Benedict and rebuilding the bass lines. I think this was the first time he had heard big TL speakers. He loved them, and especially the bass.

I know it is not fair to put a small cube alongside those, but honestly, I could never get those cubes to be anything but a distraction. You avoided further frustration I would say.

Yes, but they are advertised heavy on that 2700watt amp in there leading many to believe that it is capable to stand up and be counted:D

I know I could have gotten more by selling it on eBay, or possibly even hear. I took a real dive for a quick buck (gotta pay those life expenses you know). And the one my dad has in his rig sounds fine, it blends well. I just don't know why I couldn't get mine right. My room isn't any bigger than his.

I have scrapped the sunfire sub idea.....
Well, for what it's worth, I have the Sunfire equivalent, a Carver 10" sub woofer cube and I am extremely pleased with the small form factor coupled with the 1000 watt amp.
All I can say is this little sub works very well with my Boston Acoustics setup in both music and surround sound. And as others have said, sound is subjective, but set up properly I think this is an amazing sub.:D

After listening I have decided against the sunfire sub. It is not as musical as I liked. I am looking at the Dayton Titantic right now as a DIY project....
