I have bought new SUNFIRE 5.1 HRS SPEAKERS AND HRS8 SUB I hope to add two more ceiling speakers at some time so I am after a good Onkyo AMP. i hope to also use it for home cinema eg projector and screen if this makes a difference any suggestions ?

Do you mean amp or A/V receiver? Sounds like you are looking for an A/V receiver in which case I feel like those around these parts who know far more than I may point you in a different direction than onkyo. Is there any reason you are looking for onkyo specifically?

Also, what is your price range?

Yes I'm probably after av receiver the reason I want onyko is because it compatable with elan home systems price range £300-£600.

It seems like higher-end Onkyo models are fine, but the lower-end models may be a headache.

I have a friend who does custom installations. Few months ago, a client insisted on a lower end Onkyo model like NR609. 1st one died upon arrival. 2nd one died shortly after install. 3rd one caught on fire or something. Finally I think the client gave up & tried Pioneer. Happy ending.

I think the higher end Onkyo like NR800s will be fine. Otherwise, I would go for Denon/Marantz, Pioneer, Yamaha. Anthem.

I agree, when I was originally doing my research on A/V receivers I was looking at the onkyos because they seemed to offer a lot of features for the price, but the more I looked into them it seemed an abnormal number of people got defective ones that died on them, especially the lower end models as mentioned by ADTG.

In the end I'm pretty much saying +1 to the advice above.

Unless I'm mistaken Elan home systems is compatible with a bunch of different brands for an A/V receiver such as:
