I am looking to install wall mounted speakers in my sun room, which is roughly a 300 sq. ft. rectangle. It's glassed in and insulated, but I do plan to heat or cool it at all. Therefore, it will not get any rain or sunlight, but will likely have temperature fluctuations throughout the year (I live in central VA, winter nights as low as 10 degrees, summer days at 100), though the insulation will reduce the extremes a bit.

I was imagining two speakers mounted up near the top of an 8' wall at opposite corners of the long side of the rectangle adjoining the house, facing two walls of windows. First, does that placement make sense? Secondly, do I need outdoor speakers to handle the temperature changes or would indoor speaker work in this situation? Finally, any recommendations? My budget is about $5-700 for a pair.

Thanks for any guidance.

I can't imagine that those temp fluctuations would be good for the speaker's longevity, however I don't think it would be nearly as bad as a humid environment. If the humidity is controlled, maybe the speakers won't be that adversely affected. It looks like your room and intended speaker planning will make for a very poor acoustical situation. If it were me, I wouldn't spend a lot on speakers, if only for the fact that they are not likely to sound good no matter what speaker you buy, due to the acoustics. They may not last that long anyway. I would get some cheap book shelf speakers with decent bass extension, because if they only last a year or two, who cares, they were cheap. Right now the Infinity Primus p163s are on sale at amazon for $60 each, that is a very good price for speakers that perform that well, they have decent bass down to 70 Hz. At that price they are practically disposable.

Well, the temps in the room wouldn't hit that low or high, likely, since its fairly well insulated from cold and receives no direct sun in the summer. I suppose if I took them down during the 2-3 winter months, there lifespan wouldn't be effected much at all. Is it common practice to take down actual outdoor speakers in the winter?
