So I am getting close to buying a new receiver for my HT that I have not put back in place since I moved up north...working on other home renovation projects. I am looking in the $400 price point. I will be running 7.2 - My front stage will be my Carnegie Bookshelves and center. Sides will be some older MB Quart dipoles and rears will be a pair of Polk bookshelves. The subs will be my dual 10" Eclipse with a Crown 1000 powering them at 2 ohms.
First question is: How do I know if the receiver is truly 2 separate channels for the sub outs? Some receivers I have worked with have dual sub out that are basically just a "y"
What am I really gaining between the diff. Audyssy programs. I understand what my Denon X4000 give me not sure after I loose the sub calibration if it makes much of difference in the lower levels...

Room is not to big - rougly 11" x 14" x 8" and I can fully seal it off with closed doors.

Suggestions are helpful...Thanks

Confused. You have an X4000 and want to replace it w/ a receiver in the $400 price range?
No...I am using my X4000 in 3.2 system, which is for TV and music primarily.

This one is for my 7.2 HT.

If it doesn't say:
Audyssey MultEQ XT32 with SubEQ HT

You will not get Proper EQ of subs.
Onkyo sells a model (or 2?) with XT 32 and two sub terminals, but without SubEQ HT, both subs get EQ'ed as if one sub.
Anything I know of in the $400 range will only have a Y-splitter insider the receiver to be able to say 7.2.
The X4000 is the least expensive receiver I know of to offer true EQ of two subs.

OK....so even the "gold level" audyssey will still be doing both at the same time....

That being the case would I be best to stay with my Onkyo 805 and use it's system till I either up my budget to get another X4000 or the prices come down.....

Yes, if the reason for your upgrade is for EQ capability, it looks like your Onkyo has MultEQ XT which is the same as Denon's "Gold".
I don't know if your Onkyo has Dynamic EQ, but that is the only advantage of Denon's "Gold" over your Onkyo (if it doesn't have) that most of us would care about.

I agree, as long as the Onkyo is doing the job, not worth changing until you're ready to pay for the XT 32 with SubEQ HT. Figure out what the extra money will buy in your new TV and decide how long to wait.

The X4000 is discontinued so I suggest you grab one before they're all gone. Accessories4Less has them at $650 shipped -- for that price it's a no brainer. Buying any other receiver without Audyssey XT32 is going to be a waste when running dual subs....
