Suggestions for a new receiver

Hey guys I am looking for a new home theatre receiver for under $500 which will give me excellent sound quality for everything I do including gaming, movies, and music. I currently have a Sony STR-DE598 which has done well for the past few years but needs an upgrade seeing as I just upgraded my speakers. I have Cerwin Vega VE-12s for my front and left channels, and am looking to get VE-5s for my rears, my center is a Polk Audio CS10. My Sub is a Yamaha SW-5 (150 Watt). The interesting thing about the sub is that it doesn't appear to exist ANYWHERE on the internet. Its like its not a real item, theres no record of it. I got it as a gift a few years back and it was bought at Best Buy but i cant find a thing on it anywhere.

Anyways I am looking for a nice receiver which can really bang at loud volumes without distortion, at least 100 watts per channel and preferably supports 7.1 surround.

If you are bent on a receiver upgrade I suggest you get an Onkyo 705

It's silver but if you look at the prices of the new ones you are getting a 720 dollar receiver for 420. I've personally used this receiver and it's by far the best in it's class in bang for buck.

However I must suggest a different approach. Use your 500 dollars for a real subwoofer because this can be a much longer term investment. Receivers change with every wind.

Changing subs will do far more for your sound than changing receivers. Of course I understand if you really just can't stand your receiver anymore.

Or Marantz SR5003 ($550 ), or SR5002, or SR7001, or SR6001; all are below $500.

Or Onkyo TX-SR705, or TX-SR706; also below $500.

Just check at "accessories 4 less", they are reconditioned receivers perfectly operating and with a full warranty. Great reputable place to shop.

Note: Oups! Isiberian beat me to it (by less than a minute) with the Onkyo TX-SR705, which is one of the best from the bunch, also with the Marantz SR7001 and SR6001. But for these two Marantz receivers, you have to look at their specs, to see if you can make use of their HDMI version 1.2
