I'll elaborate on the surround speakers.

I used the DefTech SM450s in the past for Surrounds.

Now I use the BP7001SC.

I can't tell the difference.
This my friends is why we emphasize the front sound stage and subs.

Surrounds are really not that important.

Subs are everything in a home theater. Subs are to effects what the center is to dialogue. These are the first 2 pieces I would suggest starting a system off of. Then add your LR, Surrounds. Now for music you build differently. Which is why having an a and b pair can be very good.

On that note I have been meaning to setup my bookshelves as B for my mains because I seem to prefer the sound they bring to the table to that of my towers....even though my towers have 3 times the MSRP of the bookshelves....funny how that works. I just need to find a center of equal or better quality than my bookshelves that would match my towers tonally.

This is not easily done on the center end. That's why they created EQ and level matching IMO.

My approach is to use a better center than my LR commercially, but since I'm DIY now I just build the same speakers all the way.

Well I wouldn't be using all 4 speakers in conjunction with each other.

It would either be the towers and a center for HT.
Or the bookshelves for two channel audio, never to be used with the center.

I just don't even know where to start with a matching center for the towers.....its hard enough to find just the towers...
