Sony S470 / HK AVR245

Was watching a Blu-Ray disc last night.
All was well. Paused the disc ~2/3 into the movie.

From that time on, Blu Ray sound drops out intermittently.
More off than on now. Same problem with discs that have
previously played correctly.

Sound is fine when fed from the BD player's stereo out directly into
the stereo in of the tv (KDL-40V2500).

Have no idea what's going on. Any & all insight welcome.

Thanks,

- Richard

First check the HDMI connections. Be sure they are inserted STRAIGHT and gravity or other forces are not weighing on them too heavily causing them to be crooked. HDMI can be finicky.

The HDMI cables seem fine ... and they only go from the BD player to the screen --
audio is going to the receiver via a TOSLink cable.

Then try another Toslink cable. Toslink cables are very fragile and failure is common.

If that does not do the trick, then if other inputs work correctly and Toslink works from other devices, then the optical board of your player is down.

If there are other inputs on the receiver that do not work or other devices do not work via Tolsink, then your receiver has a problem.

TOSLink cable plugged into the DVD player works fine.
Figures that it would die 55 weeks after purchase.

Try unplugging the blu-ray player for about a minute and then plug it back in. Might sound silly, but that can sometimes help resolve glitches in the electronics.

Also, although I doubt it will affect your issue, be sure to install the latest firmware for the Sony if you haven't already. The latest release was August 23, 2011.

Thanks, Adam.
Turning off both the player & receiver appears to have done the trick, for now.
That said, when the disc initially started, it showed just white noise on the screen --
only when the loop of the disc's opening menu sequence restarted did a clear picture appear.
Working now, tho'.
Cheers,
- Richard

Cool - glad it worked! If it starts getting glitchy again, feel free to let us know and we'll try again.
