Just hooked up a new amp, sat rec, and dvd.
Our house was wired with surround when we built it.
Had it apart for a while as we put in a harwood floor, so I kinda forgot which wires went where.
Figured that out quickly, but here is where the problem lies.
When I hook up the rear speakers the subwoofer begins working as well.
So obviously the guys who wired us hooked the 2 rear speakers up with the same wiring thru the wall, I believe?
Now my new amp seems to insinuate that the sub could kick back and hurt the amp, when hooked directly to the amp via the speaker wires?
The back of the Onkyo amp has a single jack that says subwoofer pre-out.
The back of my sub has two jacks, right and left, that say "from preamp".
Should I get a pre-amp and hook it up in between the amp, and move the sub to the front of the room, or should I just buy a small powered sub and hook it up to the amp at the front directly, via the "correct" outlet on the amp?
Thanks for any help in advance.

The old boy we have is a big Sonance, so I am sure they now make good small ones?

How is the existing sub powered? If it's passive, and you don't have a dedicated sub amp, you could overload your receiver. Can you give us a little more info on the sub and amps you currently use?
